Message from Principal Zimmerman
Hello Lincoln Families,
We are 6 weeks into the 2022-2023 school year and there are GREAT things happening at Lincoln!
As I walk through the hallways, it is so exciting to hear all of the learning that is happening in all of the classrooms. Our students are participating in community building “Morning Meeting” every day in their rooms, which allows every child the chance to interact with their classmates and teachers in positive and welcoming ways each morning. In addition, this is a time when classes learn more about the character trait of the month through our Character Strong program. “Respect” was the trait for September, and “Responsibility” is the trait for October. It’s been wonderful to see and hear our students talking about ways in which they can show these traits during the school day. Ask your child what they are learning about being responsible!
As the weather turns chillier, please remember that we have outside recess everyday, so make sure your child has the appropriate clothing for the weather. It’s so important that we give the students the chance to get outside, get fresh air and run around together, and we want them to be comfortable.
A special THANK YOU to the Lincoln PTO for all of the hard work that went into the Fun Run and the Fun Run Picnic! They were both wonderful events for our school community.
Just a reminder that there is no school on Thursday, October 20 and Friday, October 21. We look forward to welcoming students back to Lincoln on Monday, October 24.
Thank you for your ongoing support! We truly have the best students, staff and families around!
Ms. Zimmerman

Annual Back To School Verification
Have you completed the annual back to school verification? This is the district's yearly process for families to sign off on photo restrictions, directory information, update emergency contacts and all other updates to their student's data. Our legal counsel relies on us to have this information updated from families yearly. To complete this verification, please go to ahschools.us and log in to your parent portal (step by step directions are available).
Attendance Information
Did you know student absences can be reported online? You can go to ahschools.us and log in with your parent account information or via the ParentVUE Mobile App (step by step instructions are available). You will still be able to contact the attendance line at 763-506-3106 to report an absence 24/7.
If your student will be late or absent, you must enter attendance online or by calling the absence line in order to have your student’s absence counted as excused.

Kindergarten News
Kindergarteners are adjusting to school, learning the routines and making new friends! We had so much fun working on our fine motor and literacy skills while learning about colors!
This month in Wonders, our weekly themes will be: Make New Friends, Get Up and Go!, and Use Your Senses. We will have so much fun using our senses to explore apples and pumpkins!
In math, students will learn to quickly recognize how many objects are in a collection (up to 5) without counting, compare sets using the words more and less, develop number sense with combinations that make 5 and 10, count objects and match the quantity to the written numeral and build with 2-dimensional shapes.
We are looking forward to meeting with our kindergarten families during fall conferences!

Second Grade News
Second grade is off to a great start!
We focused on Respect our first month of school and practiced how to solve disagreements respectfully. The kids did such a nice job and wanted to continue their work into October. Here is our Tree of Choices; a place for students to showcase their ideas for problem-solving.
In reading we've been focusing on reviewing short vowel sounds and we are now working on long vowels. We've read stories about how families are the same and different around the world and about pets. Students really loved our stories! In math we just finished Unit 1. In Unit 2 we will be hanging out with our friend Jack from Jack and the Beanstalk. Jack has some wild ideas to help us with our measuring and counting. It will be fun!
Mrs. Coubal, Mrs. Pitzl, and Mr. Robertson
Third Grade News
Hello Third Grade Families!
This month in reading we are focusing on “How do people from different cultures contribute to a community,” as we read various autobiographies and biographies in our Wonders curriculum.
In our October Number Corner, we are working on shapes, patterns and lines of symmetry. Addition and subtraction have been the focus of unit one in the Bridges math curriculum. We will also begin working on unit two this month which involves learning multiplication.
Mrs. Luongvan and Ms. Carlson
Fourth Grade News
Greetings Fourthling Families!
This year is off to a great start! We have completed Unit 1 in Math. We are on to Unit 2, where we are working with place value and multiplication. Each class built a Great Wall of Base Ten, so we can visualize how numbers look as they are multiplied by ten. In September, we completed our first Math Arts Integrated project- Multiplication Wheel of Design.
For Reading, we are working on skills and strategies to understand complex texts in deeper ways. Please be sure to have your student read every day at home. Ask them about things such as the author’s purpose for writing the text, and what they think will happen next. We are writing personal narratives for Unit 1.
Mrs. Nye and Mrs. Gaspar
Fifth Grade News
5th grade has been hard at work completing unit one of math. We worked on expressions, equations, and volume in this first unit. We also reviewed our multiplication strategies. In our next unit we will be looking at the orders of operation.
In reading, we have been working on sequence and theme. Our writing focus in this unit is Personal Narrative.
Finally, in science, we have been learning about environments while exploring a potential new science curriculum.
Mr. Gamache and Mr. Driscoll
Linc's Arts
Hello Lincoln Families!
We are so excited for this year and for the fantastic Arts opportunities that await us! The Arts are in full swing already as we welcome students into the new Makerspace to participate in our first all-school project, rock painting. These rocks can be found in our rock river out by the main entrance. Take a peek next time you are at school!
Our fence outside is again decorated with our awesome Put-In Cups, so generously donated by PTO last spring. Thanks for helping us create beautiful spaces!
Band, Orchestra, and Choir rehearsals started this week! 82 students in 4th and 5th grade have signed up for one or more ensemble. That’s amazing! Please ask your child about our rehearsal calendar!
Library News
Our new library is finally up and running and everyone seems to be settling in well! Checking out library materials started on Monday, September 26th and the new Self Checkout Station was introduced on October 5th. Both have been a hit. Our first school wide activity in the Makerspace has just concluded and coming up soon is the reintroduction of our Innovation Stations! The library certainly provides lots to keep us busy.
