KEY NEWS FOR EXPLORER FAMILIES
It was wonderful seeing so many families at our two curriculum nights this week. I enjoy the opportunity for us to be together for a bit and for our teachers to share the work they love so much.
The upcoming week will be a short one for students, but the staff will be participating in professional development specific to their roles on Tuesday and Wednesday. Our campus will be entirely closed on Monday for Labor Day.
We continue to foster a love of reading for all our Explorers. Over the weekend and the three days away from school, I hope you can find time to share books and stories with your children. Audiobooks can be fun if travelling by car; or joining in a family read aloud between events and making dinner can grow many types of memories. I know my own children are ‘mostly grown’ but we enjoyed our trips to the library where they could pick out the books they wanted. I remember wondering if my son would ever outgrow his Thomas the Train phase. Replacing some screen time with some text time is important for elementary age students. It’s important for adults too. This weekend, one of my errands is to renew my library card so I see it as the perfect excuse to see what new books can go on my ‘want to read’ list.
For our kindergarten and second grade families, please review the information you recently received from our school data clerk, Amy Dulion. District required residency verification letters will be sent out next week to families that still have documents to submit.
It was such fun seeing all the students and staff in their college or favorite team colors today! I even spied a few fellow Purdue fans. This is such a fun time of year, for so many reasons!
Finally, if you have just a few moments, please click the link below to send in an N3 (Northwood Nice Note). The Northwood staff continues to enjoy reading them!
With gratitude,
Heather Rucker

FOURTH GRADE EXPLORERS
Fourth grade students are starting off the year strong by using strategies to read expository texts and learning about text features! After reading an interesting text about earthquakes, students created one-pagers demonstrating what they learned from the text and their creativeness! Students were excited to share their knowledge with the class!
FIFTH GRADE EXPLORERS
ELECTRIFYING SCIENCE In fifth grade we've been investigating different sources of electricity and magnetism. We have enjoyed using the 'simple circuit' kits to test complete circuits. We used static electricity and magnetism to move objects. We even made our own electromagnet to lift paperclips at the push of a button. We also planned and carried out investigations on common materials to determine if they are insulators or conductors of electricity. It has been a fun and quite 'shocking' time.🙂

ICE CREAM AND BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS
Your child will be recognized at school on his/her birthday, with an announcement on Explorervision and a special birthday pencil. Please do not send cake, cupcakes, balloons, party favors, or party invitations to school as these will not be distributed. If you would like to celebrate your child’s birthday at school you may purchase ice cream from our cafeteria for your child’s class.
- Please email your Explorer’s teacher to find out how many students are in their class.
- Email our Interim Cafeteria Manger Bethany Lopez at Lopezb3@fultonschools.org to place your order at least TWO FULL WEEKS IN ADVANCE of your Explorer’s birthday.
- Ice cream is still $1 each for birthdays. The simplest way to handle the cost is to have money on your Explorers account via the MyPaymentsPlus app.
