Character Trait of the Month
Our NEW Character Strong trait for May is CREATIVITY. Check out what each grade level is working on!
A Message from the Principal
Hello Hoover Families,
Happy May Day! We are wrapping up MCA testing this week. Our 5th-grade students will take the Science MCAs Tuesday and Wednesday. We will make up any students who still need to complete Reading, Math, or Science MCAs by the end of this week.
Please help your child(ren) get a good night's sleep and breakfast on the days they're testing. Also, please refrain from pulling them from school, if possible, during their testing times. Your child(ren)'s teacher will be sharing the testing times for their classes this week. Reach out to teachers with any questions you may have. Thank you for your support!

1st-3rd Grade Dental Health Sealant Programming:
Hoover Elementary partnered up with the Dental Sealant Program for a second year to provide onsite dental check-ups for 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade students who signed up for it. Michelle Erickson, our school nurse, coordinated the event and even challenged our classroom teachers to see who could collect the highest percentage of consent forms. Check out the linked video below to see which classrooms surpassed the goals set! We look forward to partnering with this organization again next year for our Hoover students. Thank you Ms. Erickson, for the work you put into this to provide our students with healthy dental hygiene!

Winter Weather Updates
Please ensure students have dressed appropriately for the weather - jackets, snow pants, hats, gloves/mittens, and proper shoes/boots. Students will be going out for recess. The guideline for keeping children inside for recess will be zero degrees or 10 degrees below zero wind chill. Accommodations for children with special medical needs can be made with the Health Services office; written documentation from a doctor will be required.
The safety of all students is the priority when determining if schools should stay open in extreme winter weather. The decision to close school is serious, affecting many working families who would have to take a day off work or find daycare on short notice. Read more about where to get information on school closings due to weather and how cold it must be for the school to close.
Transportation Updates
As a reminder for our families with students riding buses, you can find information about the district's transportation services at https://www.ahschools.us/transportation and how to download the FirstView Transportation App to get real-time bus updates. Remember that the app might not be as accurate/updated when there are substitute bus drivers.
