Principal Zeman's Notes
February 23rd, 2024
Mid-quarter
We are almost at the midway point of the third quarter. It feels wild even typing that sentence - time flies by! It is important to be checking with your students about how they are doing with their school work. The binder is a great tool for guiding conversations about school work.
MCA Testing Season
Please be aware that MCA testing will take place on the following dates:
Reading: April 9-11
Math: April 23-25
Science (Gr 8 only): April 30-May 1
We want students to put their best efforts into these tests as we speak a lot about effort in all of our classes in VMS. The data we get from these tests help inform our interventions and enrichments. Please share with your students the importance of putting forth their best effort.
ZAP (repeat)
We reviewed missing assignment reports for all our students this week and observed a concerning number of incomplete assignments. Kindly remind your students to complete their homework and submit assignments to their teachers. As a response, we will initiate a working lunch intervention for students with missing assignments. Starting the week of February 26th, teachers will refer students with incomplete work to our Zeros Aren’t Permitted (ZAP) area in the lunchroom during their lunch period. Here, students will have the opportunity to work on assignments while eating lunch, ensuring they are completed and submitted to their teachers.
Donation Requests (Repeat)
We are seeking donations of quiet, independent activities for students such as coloring books, crayons, checkers, chess, mancala, and puzzles. If you have any of these items lying around, please consider donating them to VMS.
Attendance Lines (Repeat)
We encourage you to continue calling in student absences or reporting them through the parent portal. It is important for us to know if a student is absent for a legitimate reason and to ensure parents are informed for safety purposes. Thank you for your ongoing support.
