Building Excellence Successfully Together
Key News for Explorer Families
As you know the week of September 12-16 was our PTA Enrichment Fund week! When you spend an entire week dancing, singing, and greeting students and families at carpool and bus drop off in inflatable pig suits, you know you are ALL IN for students! Thank you to Lauren Caldwell, Angie Claeys and the NWES PTA enrichment week crew for organizing a great week! Enjoy the photos if you didn't get to see the dancing pigs live. Thank you also to all the families that supported the coin drive and sent in online donations. Our PTA does so much for our students and staff – every single penny is appreciated!
I also wanted to thank all Northwood parents for continuing to partner with us. The welcoming, positive school climate here was evident to me even prior to the first day of school. I am joyfully reminded of how wonderful our school is when I greet students each morning and say goodbye to them each afternoon. I get to watch our students in action throughout the school day and so enjoy witnessing the positive relationships and connections our students have with the staff members. The special connections extend beyond homeroom teachers too; sparks are ignited by multiple staff members throughout the school day - many times even before and after the school bells ring.
We’ve officially entered the fall season and with that the hope of matching fall temperatures. Enjoy this weekend, hopefully outdoors, with your families.
With gratitude,
Heather Rucker
Principal

SECOND GRADE EXPLORERS
We’ve been having a super time in second grade so far! The children are really enjoying learning about the states of matter through hands-on investigations. Our little mathematicians have been sharpening their addition skills and practicing various strategies to use when solving 2-digit and 3-digit addition/subtraction problems. We’ve also wrapped up our realistic fiction writing unit and are working on an expository piece on bats. Halloween is just around the corner and excitement is in the air.
THIRD GRADE EXPLORERS
Is Your Third Grader Too Dramatic?
Third graders spent time in ELA learning about Dramas. A drama is a play that tells a story through dialogue and action. Students had fun in small groups practicing different roles. The focus was on reading fluently and with expression. It was fun practicing silly voices and sounds with our classmates. So if you think your third grader is being too dramatic, you can blame it on the drama!

PTA'S PIGGY PALOOZA ENRICHMENT FUNDRAISER RESULTS
The PTA's Piggy Palooza Enrichment Fundraiser last week was a huge success! They raised approximately $8,500 in standard donations; with more than $4,500 from the spare change drive. Kudos to Kindergarten for filling those piggy banks and winning the popsicle party. We are so grateful for our phenomenal PTA for leading this event; and our amazing parents, community, and students for such an outstanding job!
