WMS Weekly Warrior
October 10, 2023
Good Afternoon Woodbury Middle School,
We hope you enjoyed the extended weekend. We managed a few nice days without rain, and hopefully, you were able to get some outside activities in.
We have a busy week ahead with Wednesday's last day of NWEA testing. Please remind students to have their Chromebooks charged and to give their best efforts. Diagnostic testing helps teachers understand students' learning levels but is also one indicator for class placement. We encourage students to persevere through the testing and give their best effort. Thank you for encouraging your students as well.
The Region 14 Director of Teaching and Learning will lead a Curriculum Night at Woodbury Middle School on October 19th in the gym from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. During this time, Dr. Fernandez and our Instructional Leaders at WMS will share information about the English Language Arts, Math, and Science curricula, our in-district assessments, and how to read the parent reports sent home after each assessment period. We hope you will join us for this informative night.
Later this week, WMS will begin an important initiative for our staff and students. Families will receive a letter on Friday on how to access information and be essential partners in the program. We have a special kick-off on Friday morning with teachers explaining the program to the students. If this sounds vague, it is done purposefully. We want the students to hear about the program first. More to come in next week's Weekly Warrior.
The WMS Alliance team has been very busy planning activities and events for our school. Spirit week is scheduled to start on October 23rd, with a culminating pep rally on the 27th. There will be theme days for each spirit day. Look for more information in upcoming Weekly Warriors.
The alliance team also attended a team-building field trip to Winding Trails in Farmington. While there, the students were challenged with many activities that required them to use the essential attributes in the Region 14 Vision of the Learner. Students needed to think critically to develop plans and communicate with each other how they would accomplish the goal. These leadership skills will help our team transfer the skills required to be leaders in and out of school.
The sixth-grade lockers are in and assigned to our students. As expected, a few lockers need adjustments to open correctly. Students also need to practice the new combinations and techniques to open them. This was a smooth process, thanks to our custodians and Mrs. Effes. If your student needs help with their locker, please call the office.
Don't forget Trick or Treat Street at Nonnewaug on Saturday, October 14th, from 4:30 to 7:00. See the flyer below for more information.
Have a great week,
