Wasco Weekly
THE STRENGTH OF THE WOLF IS ITS PACK
It may look like the kids are sitting and listening to a book, but that doesn’t tell the whole story. The first graders have been slowly unpacking a story structure resembling the “12 Days of Christmas”. Each day of school they sing along with their teacher revealing a new event in the story. The kids aren’t just sitting and listening- they are using memory, listening, and articulating the story events in song. The teachers at Wasco make learning fun- and packed with important skills!
Teamwork makes the dream work! What happens when you are not tall enough to reach a piece of play equipment? These students worked together to build a pile of mulch to enable all to share in the fun.

Wasco Families,
On Monday, our PTO met to review and discuss upcoming events. We are very fortunate to have parents who organize together to provide all school T-shirts, socials, and support for teachers and students. Upcoming events to support the students are a Book Fair and an All School Assembly featuring a notable author. Because of PTO’s fundraising and organizational efforts, we are able to extend fun activities to our kids that inspire and motivate their interests. PTO is also in the process of assembling our classroom volunteers (the sign up was at Backpack Night). If you are interested in helping, they can use all level of support and involvement, please use this PTO website link to connect. https://wascopto.membershiptoolkit.com/
Kind Regards,
Principal Brennan

Message from Wellness Club
Students in grades 3rd, 4th and 5th are invited to become a member of our Wasco Elementary Wellness Team. We work together to keep our school community healthy and promote the well-being of our students and staff. Meetings are on the 2nd Thursdays of each month after school from 3:00-4:00 p.m. in the LRC. Our first meeting will be on Thursday, September 8th. Applications may be picked up from your classroom teacher or from Mrs. Misner or Mr. Secor, the P.E. teachers. Applications are due this Wednesday, August 24th. We will announce club members on Tuesday, August 30.
Arrival and Dismissal
When using the drop off lane, please drive all the way forward so that we can load/unload as many cars as possible. Please stay in your car. If you wish to get out and load your child, you are welcome to park in the lot. By following this procedure, we can expedite everyone’s waiting times in the car lane.
Dr. Gordon: Listen Learn Return
It is important that District 303, led by new Superintendent Dr. Paul Gordon, is routinely connecting with staff, students, parents and community members. Listen Learn Return provides opportunities to share feedback that informs District decision making and strengthens community relations. We aim to establish a foundation of trust, access, and accountability to the colleagues, students, families, and community members we serve.
Support to Families
In D303, we value the opportunity to provide a community of care and support to our families, especially those faced with financial hardship.
If your family is currently experiencing a significant financial need, our community partnerships have several supports available for families, including school clothes/shoes, winter coats/accessories, school supplies, toiletries, holiday meals, and/or holiday gifts. If you would like to be considered for any of these supports, please complete the Family Resource Form by August 26, 2022.
Bus Information
Families, it is helpful to know that your child’s bus route is displayed in the window to the left of the bus door. The Route number IS NOT painted on the bus. At Wasco, students line up by their bus number and are escorted to the bus by a staff member. As part of our orientation process, all students reviewed bus procedures with a staff member connecting bus behavior to our Wasco Way: Be Safe, Be Kind, Work Hard, and Do the Right Thing.
School Safety Drill
On Thursday, August 25th Wasco Elementary will conduct their state-required annual Lockdown Drill with law enforcement personnel present. During this time, students will review and practice the classroom procedures. Parents/guardians may opt their child out of physical participation in this drill each year by emailing Stephanie Brennan and Heather Kudabeck at least 24 hours prior to the scheduled date. Students who are opted out will receive an alternative school safety learning experience with a certified staff member.

We do not allow in food for celebrations so please do not send them to school or drop them off, they will not be accepted. If you would like to send in items or a treat bag (such as a pencil or non food item) we can send that home with classmates to enjoy at home.
