National Military Family Appreciation Month
As part of the data gathered during our Campus Needs Assessment from last year, we learned that we have several students who are considered part of a military family. Currently, we have 32 students (6.8% of our enrollment) who are military-connected. This means that each of these students are a dependent of a current or former member of the U.S. Military, TX National Guard, or a reserve force in the U.S. Military. For some of these students, it may mean that they are a dependent of a member of the military who was killed or injured in the line of duty or that their parent/guardian is currently on active duty.
The Texas Education Agency notes that:
- Texas ranks second in the nation for educating school-aged military-connected students, with nearly 200,000 identified military-connected students attending public and open-enrollment charter schools.
- Public and open-enrollment charter schools have identified military-connected students in every school region of Texas.
- Military-connected children move an average of 6-9 times during their K-12 education experience.
- 30% of military-connected children are between the ages of 6 and 11 years old.
- Children from military families are twice as likely as their civilian counterparts to serve in the Armed Forces as adults.
We want to recognize the sacrifices made, not only by the students' parents/guardians, but by their families as a whole.
S.T.E.P.S.
While generally things run smoothly at Lincoln, situations may occasionally arise that cause concern. MISD has an approach on how to work with our staff and our district to resolve these types of situations. It's called Steps to Eliminate Problem Situations, or S.T.E.P.S. We want to work with you to quickly and satisfactorily resolve those challenging situations. The 4 sequential steps are described below and are the best methods for reaching satisfactory solutions. Please use them should you ever encounter a situation in Montgomery I.S.D. or at Lincoln which is a concern to you.
- CONTACT THE APPROPRIATE STAFF MEMBER – The most direct route to resolving a concern is to confer directly with the person involved, whether it is a teacher, coach, or bus driver, etc. Over 95% of the concerns are resolved at this level.
- CONTACT THE PRINCIPAL – A professional educator is in charge of each campus and is responsible for concerns that may arise from the school’s operation. Explanations of policies and procedures, various clarifications and all types of campus information are available from the principal.
- CONTACT THE APPROPRIATE DISTRICT ADMINISTRATOR – This may be the Director of Athletics, Child Nutrition, Human Resources, Transportation, or Special Education; Executive Director of Curriculum; Assistant Superintendent for Administrative Services; or the Superintendent. This step should be taken only when steps one and two have not resolved the concern. Starting with this step will result in you being asked to attempt steps one and two first.
- CONTACT THE SCHOOL BOARD – After taking step 1-3 above without resolving a concern, a request in writing for a School Board hearing is step 4. This written request is made through the Superintendent.
As a staff, we work hard to ensure the safety and learning of your children. If there is a concern, we want to speak with you and collaborate with you to get the situation resolved. Reach out. We are on the same team with the same goal.
Apex Fundraiser Coming Soon (11/6)
Instead of having two large fundraisers this year, we have opted to use Apex as our primary fundraiser for our activity fund. Our Activity fund is used to promote the general welfare of the school and the educational development and morale of all students, such as through field trips or the development of an outdoor learning center. Our Apex event will take place November 6-17. The finale will be the obstacle course on Friday, November 17. Be on the lookout for more information on our social media pages.
Words of Appreciation
Thank you to this week's lunch volunteers: Diana Sanchez, Kimberly Buckner, Trudy Day, and Lisa Krien. We appreciate your time and efforts!
We also want to give a shout out to Everbright Dental. Earlier this year, they donated car rider tags to our campus. We appreciate their partnership in helping our students get home safely!
Parent Involvement Opportunities
One of our campus goals is to build more parent involvement on our campus. As parents, you know your child best. We want to partner with you to consistently make our school better. Below are several opportunities where you can be involved or provide feedback.
- Apex Obstacle Course Volunteers - On Friday, 11/17, we will need 8-10 volunteers during each round of our Apex Obstacle Course. Volunteers must have completed the volunteer form prior to signing up. Times are PK/ECSE: 8:30-9:00; Kdg/1st: 9:00-10:00; 2nd/3rd 10:00-11:00; 4th/5th 11:00-12:00. You can sign up to volunteer using this link.
- Parent Lunch Volunteers - We are always looking for help in the cafeteria during lunches. If you are able to help, complete the volunteer form and then sign up here on the form organized by our PTO.
- WatchDOGS - Click this link for more information, the program presentation from the district, the background form, and the registration form.
- Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) - Join our PTO! The cost for an entire family is only $7. Our PTO is an organization of parents that works to support our students and staff in a variety of ways. They recently purchased some toys and games that students can play with at recess. They also bring in special programs and activities for our students and find ways to show appreciation to our staff. We encourage all families to join. For more information, you can contact our PTO at mylespto@gmail.com. You can also find them on Facebook (@myLESPTO).
- Parent Feedback Form - Any time you want to share your thoughts, you can email, call, or make an appointment to visit. Another way you can provide input is to simply complete our parent feedback form at any time. Your responses are anonymous unless you choose to include your name and/or contact information.

All About Lunch
Lunch Schedules
Lunch visitors who are on a child's emergency contact list are welcome to eat with that child on the stage during the student's lunch period starting on August 28. Visitors will need to check in at the front office with their ID and get a visitor badge. Please do not invite other students to join you or provide food or snacks for other students. When lunch is over, all students will line up with their class. Visitors will return to the front office to turn in their visitor badge.
A friendly reminder, we do not have an open lunch policy so please do not order food for your child from outside vendors to be delivered to the school during the school day (i.e. Uber Eats, Grub Hub, Door Dash, or any kind of delivery service). This becomes a safety concern when staff need to leave the front office to deliver food to students or take their focus off of families who have business in the office. Food deliveries also increase the number of unfamiliar people entering the building. Additionally, our lunch times are very tight and do not allow for late deliveries. We cannot allow for learning to be disrupted by early or late food deliveries. Thank you for understanding our focus on safety and uninterrupted instructional time.
Lunch TImes:
- Pre-K & ECSE (AM) - 11:30-12:00
- ECSE (PM) - 11:40-12:10
- Kindergarten - 12:20-12:50
- 1st Grade - 11:45-12:15
- 2nd Grade - 10:55-11:25
- 3rd Grade - 11:10-11:40
- 4th Grade - 12:05-12:35
- 5th Grade - 12:35-1:05
School Hours, Attendance, and Tardies
- Doors open at 7:50
- Tardy bell rings, and class begins at 8:15. (This is the time students are expected to be in their seats in the classroom.)
- School day ends at 3:40
We are working hard to maximize each and every minute our students are here. Students who arrive after 8:15 are considered tardy and will need to be walked into the front door of the building and signed in by a parent or guardian. If your child needs to leave early, they may be checked out through the front office by a parent or guardian no later than 3:15 pm.
Attendance is of critical importance to your child's academic success. Click here on a district update regarding attendance procedures for the 23-24 school year. Rather than sending a note to school with your child upon his/her return from an absence, parents will enter the absence information through Family Access in Skyward. Directions for entering the infomation is availble in the link above.
Changes in transportation need to be made prior to 2:00 in order to allow time for the messages to be communicated with the appropriate staff member. To request a change of transportation, either
- Send a note with your child,
- Email LincolnElementaryTransit@misd.org with the note and a copy of your driver's license, or
- Come to the school with a copy of your driver's license.
