People...
“Personal relationships involve nature’s most mysterious forces. Outside judgements are easy to make & hard to verify.” Walter Isaacson wrote that in his excellent biography of Albert Einstein, but it could describe any human relationships. Guess what? Leadership is a people business so you will spend your life not quite knowing what will happen next. Every situation & every person will be unique. But you can increase the odds of choosing the right thing to do if you remember these ten things about people. People have emotions & a life outside work; are not machines or interchangeable parts; want to be safe, want control, want to do work that matters, want to work with people they like, & to be treated fairly; make mistakes; are creative; and want to make progress. Key Project Updates
- Bids received to replace Police Station roof will be taken to CIP to approve funding;
- Punchlist completed for N Jesse James overlay.
- Construction documents are under development for stabilitization planned at the Hall of Waters; bidding is projected to begin after the holidays.
- Work is progressing with McGrath Consulting's Market Salary & Benefit Plan, other communities in our recruitment market were surveyed, current salaries compared to the market & final adjustments are being made relative to our financial ability.
- Candidates for Police Chief will be interviewed this week, we are pleased with the quality of applicants that have expressed interest in the position.
- Tri-County Mental Health in partnership with the ESPD has assigned a mental health professional to the ESPD one day/week. Partnership brings additional resources to officers. Individuals in crisis need additional resources than can be provided by the police, EMS, & the hospital alone. We are in hopes this new direction in policing results in better outcomes for community families.
- Complaints for property maintenance can sometimes be a symptom of a greater problem. Our Neighborhood Services seeks to define what type of assistance is needed, while solving the property maintenance issue. Many times, the person's church family & neighbors can bring the support needed to solve other issues that are not as visible as poor property maintenance. We are looking to address the cause of the problem.
- Project list is being developed for ARPA funds & partnership projects are under discussion.
