New Process for Absence Reporting
In an effort to streamline the process for reporting an absence at our school, families will now complete and submit a single online form. Beginning November 19, our new District 196 Online Absence Notification System will allow families to report an illness or other absence, sign a student out and alert staff of a late arrival. Once submitted, the system will directly notify your school.
The form is located in the following two pages of ALL district websites, including Eagan High School:
- Attendance page under Families https://ehs.district196.org/families/attendance
- Contact page https://ehs.district196.org/contact
The link is also available on the Attendance and Contact pages of the ESPAÑOL and SOMALI language pages, which can be accessed in the top black utility bar of all websites. Please be aware that this new system will replace the steps previously taken to report an absence.
During this transition, you may continue to call the school attendance office. However, we ask that you begin using the new absence notification system as soon as possible.
If you have any questions, please contact us. Thank you!

Speed Limit on Diffley Road (County Road 30)
Dakota County, partnering with the school district and city, requested the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) perform a speed zone assessment for the Diffley Road School Area following the roadway work completed earlier this year. The state authorized a new speed limit on Diffley Road of 35 miles per hour from east of Lexington Avenue through Braddock Trail. The reduced 30 mile per hour speed is still in effect on Diffley Road within the school area during school arrival and dismissal times.
For additional information regarding speed limits, please go to the Speed Limits Fact Sheet on Dakota County’s website.

Desired Daily Experience Initiative
Help define the "desired daily experience" for District 196 students, families and employees
Students, parents/guardians and employees are being asked to complete a survey to share their desired daily experience, and schools will be conducting focus groups to help ensure all perspectives are represented.
What best describes what you would like to experience on an everyday basis? Similarly, what are your hopes and expectations for the experience of our students?
This is an important step in our district’s current strategic planning work. The themes identified in these surveys and focus groups will define our district’s desired daily experience for students, families and employees. We will refer back to these themes often as we develop the vision and plans that will guide our work to achieve our goals and mission of educating all of our students to reach their full potential.
The survey is open now through December 17 [extended deadline]. All answers are collected anonymously and this is completely voluntary. The survey is appropriate for students in grade 6 and above.
Take the Minnesota Safe Learning Survey
The University of Minnesota and Minnesota Department of Education are inviting students in grades 6-12, families and educators to share their experiences with school over the past year. The Minnesota Safe Learning Survey, which was also administered in February and May 2021, is being given this last time to provide a picture of the landscape in education across Minnesota. Districts will receive local information to compare with statewide data. The survey closes November 24. Take the Minnesota Safe Learning Survey.
Freshman Retreat
On Tuesday, December 14, 2021 we invite all 9th grade students to attend the Freshman “Respect” Retreat. The goal of this retreat is to build a unified class, where students will work together to examine the issues of self-respect, respecting others and standing up for the value of respect. This retreat will give students an opportunity to build relationships with students that they may not otherwise meet.
Please register via myPaymentsplus for this retreat: https://ehs.district196.org/families
The cost is $25.00. Students receiving free lunch will automatically receive a scholarship when checking out.
Please contact the Counseling Office with any questions. Thank you!
