Classroom Spotlights!
A Message for My Student
Shout out to FPMS teacher Gabby Madison for this beautfiful and engaging way to connect with students, families and staff members by giving them an opportunity to share our hopes and beliefs for our students. What a great way to build community!
"What do you notice? . . . What do you wonder?"
Thanks to Brianna Frasco for having us into her classroom, where this strategy was in full use. These simple questions can serve for a meaningful opening activity, that honors the ideas and experiences each student brings to the classroom. This is a great way to build care and collaboration in the classroom, as well as activate students' prior knowledge and honor their lived experiences.
Shared Classroom Expectations
Students and staff in Sydney Van Steenberge's class co constructed classroom expectations, but not just for students. They outlined expectations for interactions between students; for students to the teacher; for teacher to students, and for students to a guest. Student ownership, agency, and collaboration is on display here!
Counting and Cardinality in Action!
Students in Jenn Everson's 1st grade classroom utilizing manipulatives to practice their counting and cardinality.
Math Pathways and Materials Adoption
We were able to share information at both middle school Open Houses with families regarding HS math pathways and recommended math materials for 6-12 math.

Enacting Our "Why"
Project Update: Monday's Promising Practices Professional Learning Sessions
We are grateful to everyone for making our first round of Monday Promising Practices sessions a success! The next session in this three-part cycle is October 16, with the final session on January 8.
This is our first time offering professional development across the district in this manner, and we are working hard to continue to grow our list of offerings to meet more job types and contents. If you have contacts and/or resources from external organizations that offer content or job specific professional learning, please contact Nicole Pete @ npete@woodburnsd.org so that we can explore how to integrate these sessions into our offerings.
In other Professional Learning News, please help us in creating an amazing November Woodburn Learning conference, Nov 20 and 21. Fill out a session proposal today, and encourage colleagues and friends to do the same!
Below are screenshots of the exit ticket data responses from Monday's sessions. Overall, participants found the sessions impactful to their learning, with good facilitation, content, and aligned objectives. We are all better together, when we learn together!
