Pirates Post

Congratulations to our Lady Pirates Basketball team, Coach Burke and Coach Spellman on a fantastic season. Undefeated conference regular season and tournament champions and Sectional Finalists. Their season ended on Saturday at North Duplin but we are proud of all you accomplished and the manner in which you accomplished it. Great job by all.

This Monday night there will be a Black History Month Program at the Perquimans Public Library starting at 5:00 PM. We encourage all who can to attend this event.

We have a very busy week this week at PCHS:

Monday - Baseball and Softball will travel to Currituck County High School for their first games of the season. PCHS will have a SIT meeting at 3:20 in our media center and there will be a school board meeting at 6:00 PM at the central office building.

Tuesday - Mrs. Gray will host a virtual admissions event with Appalachian State University in our media center at 9:00 AM and Women's Soccer will host Currituck at 5:00 PM.

Wednesday - Baseball and softball will host Manteo. JV Baseball will play at 4:30, Softball at 5:00 and Varsity Baseball immediately after JV is finished.

Thursday - The PCHS band will hold their annual Spring Concert at 6:00 PM. Women's Soccer will play at Albemarle School at 4:00 PM.

Friday - JV baseball will host Currituck at 4:30, and the softball and baseball teams wiil play Edenton at home. Softball starts at 5:00 PM and Baseball starts at 7:00 PM.

Saturday - The PCHS Band Boosters will hold a "March Forth" Vendor Fair at the Perquimans County Parks and Recreation Center from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

March 23 - PCHS Band will participate in the Music Performance Assessment at 1:30 PM in Williamston, NC

April 1 - Winter Guard will perform at the Hampton Coliseum in the championship competition.

April 22 - PCHS Prom will be held for Seniors, Juniors and their guests at Albemarle Plantation

May 18 - Baccalaureate Service

Mr. Jeff Nixon is excellent at making learning relevant for the students in his classes. He provides hands-on instruction in automotive content integrated with technology and real-world tasks. His teaching practices are inclusive to ensure that all students can access the curriculum at their level. Additionally, he collaborates with parents and community partners to increase awareness of his program and gain their support. He often shares that student learning in this area is valuable to the community and their families. Mr. Nixon also volunteers to serve at school functions and collaborates with colleagues in a professional manner. Due to building trusting relationships with stakeholders, he is a staple at PCHS and in the community. Hats Off to this PQ Champion, Mr. Jeff Nixon!

Mrs. Cherica Thomas is a steady support and encouragement to students in our OCS program. She is always willing to assist them in any way possible. She goes above and beyond to help them access work, community and school opportunities as a part of their curriculum. She manages the PQ Perk program and assists Mrs. Sutton in providing a sound education to each student in their care. She is a leader and a does what is best for students in all situations. Mrs. Thomas is a great role model for her students and supports her colleagues across the building. PCHS is blessed to have an educator like Mrs. Thomas in our building every day.

Mrs. Sarah Biter does an incredible job leading our cafeteria with a lot of energy and dedication. She provides all students and staff a healthy lunch with several choices each day. She cares about our students and has much pride back in the kitchen while preparing each meal. She has that "whatever it takes" attitude and is willing to go the extra mile for our school. Mrs. Biter is a valuable member of our staff...she is a PQ Champion!

Seniors: The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application opened Oct 1st. If you intend to attend college or think you might attend college after high school, and are looking for money to help pay for school, you will need to complete the 23-24 FAFSA Application.

It is never too early to start thinking about funding college and start the scholarship application process. Please check out the Student Scholarship Spreadsheet for a list of current and active scholarships.

Juniors: It is post graduation planning season! Ms.Gray, the College and Career Advisor, will continue to meet with juniors 1:1 to discuss their post graduation plans.

COA C2C Day:

COA is hosting our annual College to Career Signing Event on March 23rd. This event will be held on the Elizabeth City Campus beginning at 4 PM. It does include the opportunity for a $500 scholarship as well. I have included the flyer below.

UNC Chapel Hill

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s (UNC-CH’s) Order of the Bell Tower, is hosting a Shadow Day, where we invite high school Juniors to visit campus. They attend a class with a UNC student, take a tour, eat in our dining hall, and learn more about Carolina and college life.This Spring’s program will take place on April 14th. Lunch in one of our dining halls will be provided for students and their parents/guardians they bring with them.Attending this event is entirely free and students are not committing to anything by coming. Clemson University

Do you know a current underrepresented high school sophomore who's in the top 20% of their class and wants to learn more about college and specifically Clemson University? #IAMComputerScience Summit

The Office of Career and Technical Education at the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction will host the 3rd Annual #IAmComputerScience(#IAmCS) Summit in Spring 2023. This year's summit is for North Carolina elementary to high school students interested in Computer Science, IT, and STEM Education. Our theme will be "Make Way: Youth Accelerator Fusing Robotics, Design, and Gaming". We are currently looking to build a dynamic team of Student Leaders to innovate, organize, and potentially lead aspects of our third annual summit! We require Student Leaders to attend our in-person Student Leader Orientation and the in-person Summit, all of which are expected to take place during the week in late Spring—transportation, a hotel room, and absence notes for school will be provided to Student Leaders. If selected for this opportunity, we require that Student Leaders uphold our contract until the summit date.THE DEADLINE TO APPLY: March 4, 2023.

Academic Summer Campapalooza

Campapalooza is a 5-day academic summer camp for rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors. They will live on campus, have their meals in the University cafeteria, and spend their days engaged in exciting academic activities with our University Faculty! The QR code provides a link to a form where students can choose the camp topic they are interested in and connect with the faculty.
