Hello Odyssey ECCO families-

Happy Fall! As the leaves begin to change and we see new colors all around us, the students begin the second quarter of the 2023-24 school year. All the beginning of school stuff is now a thing of the past and it is time to buckle down and finish the semester strong with a great effort in the second quarter.

Please mark your calendar for parent teacher conferences on October 25 & 26. Also, be on the lookout for school communication regarding the 5Essentials Parent Survey that will be available starting Oct. 24-Nov. 17 (information to follow), your feedback is so important to our continued success. As always, be on the lookout for communications from us to help you stay informed.

Great news! PowerSchool and Schoology are now synchronized for all Spanish classes, thanks to Kristen Krull. Duolingo and Aprenderespanol.org are wonderful study resources.

Tutoring is available for high school and college classes Monday thru Thursday after school; Mr. Beretta, Mr. Cooper, Dr. Eaton, Mrs. Lord, Mr. Trendelman and Mrs. Lord are available for tutoring by appointment. In addition, Odyssey ECCO students who are taking PPSC classes, have full access to PPSC tutoring and writing labs. (in-person and on-line) Students, please access this valuable tool, especially as we move closer to Finals Week. Instructors are here to support you and are eager to see you achieve!

• Odyssey ECCO final exams are scheduled for December 15, 18-20.

On September 29th, we received a generous donation from the Corvette Club of Colorado Springs, money is fundraised by their annual car show and the members match the dollar amount as well as the Mike Maroone Chevy North store. The money goes back into the auto program. This years funds are being used to provide students with shop uniforms for students.

Environmental Science and Agriculture students are participating in the Growing Beyond Earth project through FFA. Growing Beyond Earth® (GBE) is a classroom-based citizen science project operated in partnership with NASA, designed to advance NASA research on growing plants in space. It includes a series of plant experiments conducted by students in a Fairchild-designed plant habitat like the Vegetable Production System (Veggie) on the International Space Station. GBE provides a steady stream of valuable data to NASA scientists who are developing technologies for growing food crops for long-duration missions into deep space.

We have a total of 12 students who are FFA members that are participating in the project. They have already set up the growth chamber and in the next 10 days they will start collecting data. For this semester the project will run until November 18th when the final data is required to be submitted.

The Odyssey FCCLA chapter attended the 2023 Spanish Peaks Fall District Conference on Monday, October 3rd at the D11 Tesla Professional Development Center. Odyssey members in attendance included Alexis Cottrell, Lesly Hernandez, Eva Courtney, Alexandra Trujillo, Kimberly Garces Zermeno, Jordan Hamilton, Lily Vickery, Nyran Cheng, Francesco Gallegos, and Adrian Rich. Members attended roundtable sessions, participated in electing district officers, and planned chapter activities for the year. Odyssey senior, Jordan Hamilton led the conference with the district officer team. Congratulations to newly elected Spanish Peaks District Officers from Odyssey: Alexandra Trujillo, Jordan Hamilton, and Kim Garces Zermeno!
