High School Principal - JoLynn Ray
Dear High School Families,
Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful students with us this week. It has been a great week of learning, socializing, and getting back into the school routine. We have had a great week of no cell phones. Students are talking to each other.
I wanted to share a few highlights from our different courses. Pictured below is Mr. Dorrel and our new sports officiating course. The students are researching which sport they would like to start with to learn all the rules and how to officiate the sport.
Did you know that this semester alone we are offering eight college-in-the-classroom courses through Eastern Washington University? Students earn college credits without having to leave Reardan High School. If you would like more information, please reach out.
Sincerely,
JoLynn Ray
Principal
Middle School Update
Middle School Parents–we want to thank you for sending us these amazing students! RMS is off to a great start, and our students are doing a fantastic job. Here are a few reminders and requests:
Picture Day for MS and HS is Tuesday, September 12th. Look for picture packets coming home soon. You may order with the envelope or on-line.
Please update your school information either in Skyward or on the forms that students are bringing home this week. Look for the purple sheet for a list of updates and instructions. Please reach out to Pam Hoffman with any questions. phoffman@reardansd.net
Thank you for sending water bottles with your students! Please be sure their names are on the bottles so we can return lost bottles to students.
As the weather fluctuates and our MS students attempt to stay organized through seven class moves each day, their belongings sometimes get left behind. If you use a sharpie to put either their names or initials on backpacks, lunch boxes, and the tags of sweatshirts, we will make every effort to reunite lost belongings with their owners. Lost items can be reclaimed from our lost and found rack near the elementary office.
This week students are reviewing and learning about our school-wide expectations for hallway, commons, restroom, assembly, and classroom behaviors. We are focusing on being Respectful, Responsible, and Ready to Learn. We are also taking this first week to review the RMS Student Handbook in depth. When students and teachers are finished reviewing the handbook, look for it to come home for your review and reference. Please fill out, sign, and return the last page (front and back) of the handbook by Friday, September 8th.
Elementary Update
Preschool, Transition to Kindergarten, and Kindergarten students will have their first day of school, Tuesday, September 5th.
IMPORTANT: The cut-off time for getting bus passes or change-of-plan messages is 2:00 PM, unless it’s a genuine emergency. Times after that point in the school day are often difficult to relay messages to students, as classes are often in locations other than their classes. This plan will help eliminate chaos for the Transportation Department, your child, and for the front office. Thank you for helping us still to this plan moving forward.
Along the same vein, if you are here to pick up your child, if at all possible, please wait until the end of the day to get them for similar reasons mentioned above. Thank you for helping to keep our students stress-free.
Parents, please read the Student Handbook that your child will be bringing home in the next several days. Go over the highlights with them so that everyone has the same expectations. There will also be a small packet of information sent home that we are asking your special attention to. Please sign and return the Student Demographic and Health Information forms (if you have already made updates via Skyward, thank you!!!). Please sign and return both sides of the Parent Signature page.
Security Update - Brad Eylar
Hello Parents,
As we are starting our 2023-2024 school year, I wanted to let you know we are having back our School Resource Officer (SRO), Officer Foust back. She will be back on campus in mid- September. As an SRO she is a sworn law enforcement officer that holds a commission with Reardan Police Department. As such she is able to carry out law enforcement duties to protect our school. Officer Foust has completed all required trainings with our ESD. An SRO does not participate in the school discipline process.
As the Director of Security, I am a School Security Officer (SSO), approved by our School Board to carry a weapon in the defense of our children. As an SSO I do not hold a law enforcement commission while at school and have no ability to arrest, only detain for safety reasons. As the Director of Security, I answer to the School Superintendent, not the Police Department. I am able to work with principals to create a safe and secure learning environment.
REMINDER- Flag Football Registration Forms are due in September 6th!
Officer Brad
