PSSA Information for ESA
- We will hold a PSSA presentation for parents at this week's PCA Meeting on Wednesday 4/19 at 5:00 pm
- grades 3-8 will be tested in ELA and Math. Grades 4 and 8 will be tested in Science
ELA: April 25-27th
MATH: May 2nd-3rd
SCIENCE (4th and 8th only): May 8th-9th
- Students should arrive on time by 8:45 am daily to take the exam and be prepared for the start of the test. If students are late, they will require to make up the test at an additional time.
- Students should make sure to eat a good breakfast the morning of testing to ensure that they are fueled to do their best. Breakfast is also available at school.
- Please remind students to follow the code of conduct rules for test takers - not complying with the rules during state testing will result in disciplinary action.
- ALL cellphones, electronics, or other forms of communication (ex. Apple Watches) must be turned off, turned in, and not on the student. If students are caught with a cell phone, AirPods, Apple Watches, etc. during test taking, they will have disciplinary consequences.

CHANGES IN ARRIVAL AND DISMISSAL
ARRIVAL:
-Bus Students will continue to enter the school through the back gate and door off of 15th Street.
-Car Riders will be dropped off on Esrey Street going west (facing Nazz’s Pizza). In order to ensure the safety of all students and to be considerate of our Palmer House neighbors, cars can only travel west on Esry St.
Staff will be outside to greet and assist students. Please have students exit through the right side of the car only. The playground gate on Esrey Street will open at 8:35 am for Car Riders.
-Car Riders will enter the school through the back door. Students may go to breakfast, K-4 to the Music Room and 5-8 to the Gym.
DISMISSAL:
-At 3:15 pm Kindergarten will hold their dismissal at the parking lot gym entrance Middle School Entrance. Parents must walk up to pick up students
-At 3:35 pm Walkers will be released from the side gym door
-At 3:40 Walk Up/Parent Pick Up dismissal will begin at the side gym door
-At 3:40 Car Line Dismissal will begin. Students will exit from the Cafeteria door through the back gate to Esrey Street going west only (facing Nazz’s Pizza). Staff members will assist students to their cars. Please remain in your car.
-ESA’s parking lot will be closed daily from 8:25 am - 9:30 am and from 2:25 pm - 4:00 pm
**There are no early dismissals between 2:30 pm and 3:30 pm
**Students’ modes of dismissal cannot be changed after 2:30 pm

Staff Shout Out of the Week - Ms. Ferguson and Mrs. D’Eletto (Sent by ESA Staff as a Surprise!)
Ms. Ferguson
- Taking over the leadership of a school building in the midst of a major transitional year likely was not easy but she accepted the challenge.
- She is an extremely intelligent woman with many years of experience and we are happy she has blessed our school with her abilities!
- Her kind heart and always taking the kids sides!
- A helping hand at ESA!
- Always is willing to help out and give advice whenever I need it! Happy to have her.
- Ms. Ferguson works to align the expectations laid out for staff and students at ESA guiding us as we started our new year as part of CUSD. We appreciate her leadership and expertise of district information.

Mrs. D'Eletto
- She is a wonder woman who gives all of herself to the kids and this building despite being pulled in a million directions at all times. She is willing to get involved whether that involves handling nurse duties, monitoring the front office, or serving lunch in the cafeteria.
- She is a very sweet woman who always is willing to help out wherever is needed. Our school has been blessed for years to have her personality and support!
- Her sense of humor and kind heart!
- Such a great asset to ESA!
- Such a sweetheart and lovey woman! So happy she is a part of our ESA family.
- Mrs D’Eletto steps up every time she is called to help. She is dedicated to the betterment of our students and supportive of the staff. Mrs. D’Eletto goes above and beyond her job everyday. We are so glad she is heading up the new ESA.

PARENT MEETINGS
-we are unable to hold parent meetings until after 9:30 am. Everyone on our team is involved in student arrival and our number one priority is student safety. Please call the front office to schedule a meeting so we can ensure to address any questions or concerns.
TRANSPORTATION
-a reminder that bus riding is a privilege. If students are not following bus rules, they will be suspended from the bus.
ATTENDANCE, DRESS CODE and CELL PHONE POLICIES
-Please see the policies attached below. This week we began sending home Dress Code Violation letters. Please ensure that your child is coming to school in uniform daily. Students may not wear hooded sweatshirts during the school day.
SCHOOL HOURS
-Our school hours are 8:45 am - 3:45 pm
-The doors open at 8:40 am for students
-Breakfast is served daily from 8:40 am - 9:00am
-Students are considered late by 9:00 am. Please walk your student into the building if they are late. We want to ensure student safety.

Lunch and Door Dash
We are seeing an increase in Door Dash deliveries. Please do not Door Dash your child food. Many times the food is left outside causing an unsafe situation. Students are welcomed to have a school lunch or pack their lunch, but Door Dash is not an option.
Dress Code
Expectation: Children are expected to wear the WPCS or Chester Upland School District uniform to school each day. Families are asked to contact the school’s social worker, if they have any questions or concerns about obtaining the uniform.

Fanny packs and purses( purses can be no larger then 8 inches wide and 5 inches in length)
Cell Phone Policy

Cell Phone and Electronic Devices
The use of cell phones and electronic devices are not permitted at ESA. Upon entering the school building students must turn off all electronic devices and keep them stored in their backpack or lockers (grades 5-8) If the electronic device is seen or heard by an ESA Staff member, the device will be confiscated. The first time the device is confiscated it will be returned to the student at the end of the day. For each infraction thereafter, confiscated phones will be turned in to the Dean and must be picked up by an adult. Confiscated phones will not be given back to the child. ESA will not assume responsibility for the loss or theft of any electronic device. Smart Watches are prohibited from being worn in the building. ESA reserves the right to reasonably search and/or confiscate any and all electronic devices to the extent allowed by applicable state and/or federal laws and regulations.
