D91 Update Sept 20, 2024
From Superintendent Karla LaOrange

Superintendent's Message
The Importance of Regular School Attendance
Students who attend school regularly are more likely to pass classes, read at grade level, and graduate on time. It's surprising how quickly absences can add up! Missing just 2 or more days per month amounts to over 10 days of school missed in a year. Research shows that a student who misses 10 days of school annually is 25% less likely to enroll in college. When students are absent, they not only miss learning opportunities but also social interactions that contribute to their development.
Supporting Your Child’s Schoolwork and Attendance
Sometimes, children may be hesitant to attend school because they feel behind or have missing assignments. You can stay on top of their academic progress by checking PowerSchool regularly. If you notice missing assignments, contact your child’s teacher right away. Addressing the issue early ensures your child learns the material they missed, so they're prepared for upcoming lessons.
Studies have shown that completing assignments as soon as possible reduces anxiety, making it easier for students to return to school feeling confident and ready to learn.
Tips to Keep Your Child on Track
- Check PowerSchool Weekly: Make it a habit to review your child’s grades and assignments every week.
- Stay Positive: If your child has missing work, maintain a positive and encouraging tone. This helps them focus on solutions and feel supported.
- Communicate with Teachers: Our teachers are here to help! Don’t hesitate to reach out if you have questions or need assistance with your child’s assignments.
Together, we can ensure your child stays on track and thrives academically. Thank you for partnering with us in your child’s education!
Have a great weekend!
