Message from Superintendent Kaczkowski
The past three weeks presented yet another new challenge for our district related to the pandemic. Thank you to all of our substitutes and staff members who stepped up and taught in our classrooms to help keep learning in person while our community experienced the surge of COVID-19. We were extremely short staffed after winter break and have been all hands on deck for the past three weeks. Thank you to everyone who did more and different work during this time.
Thankfully our staffing shortage is starting to taper off. Our plan is to revert back to pre-surge coverage procedures which will enable our coaches and interventionists to return to their typical responsibilities.
Thank you to Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources Marci Conlin and Assistant Superintendent for Teacher, Learning and Accountability Dr. Katie McCluskey for all of the early morning work to manage this staffing shortage coherently. I know that it was much bigger than anticipated. Thank you for making this shift. We now have a process in place that we know we can implement if another surge is in our future. Hopefully that is NOT the case.
Dr. K
COVID-19 Dashboard
The District 41 COVID Dashboard is a way for the public to monitor both the number of positive covid cases reported for students and staff as well as the number of people quarantined in the district due to close contact with someone who has tested positive. The dashboard will be updated every Monday by the end of the day.
Revised Guidance Reminder
The isolation and quarantine period for students and staff members sick with COVID-19 or considered a close contact has been reduced to five days, if they are symptom free.
The Illinois Department of Public Health, Illinois State Board of Education and the DuPage County Health Department announced that the agencies have adopted CDC guidance for P-12 schools that halves the isolation and quarantine period. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) updated its guidance for P-12 schools on January 6.
As a result, District 41 has implemented this updated guidance. If you have been in isolation or quarantine and it has been more than 5 days AND you are symptom free, you may return to school as indicated below. This announcement does not change the State of Illinois mask requirement for anyone inside school buildings. The Governor’s indoor mask mandate for school is still in effect until further notice.
