This week, educators, students, and families will engage in college and career awareness activities and experiences. GEAR UP will deliver information about ongoing student services including all things college & career, mentoring, tutoring, and student/family workshops. Rattler Band thrives at Cap-City Festival
This weekend, the Rattler Band attended the Capital City Marching Festival in Austin. The band competed against 18 bands and had a phenomenal showing!
In prelims the Rattler Band won 1st place in class AAA (this is based on band size) and 1st place in percussion AND color guard. This placed the Rattler Band in the top 10 overall and allowed the band to advance to the finals round of this competition where they earned a 8th place overall finish. Go Rattler Band!
Diamonds Keep on Shinin'
De Zavala teachers and staff are benefitting from the San Marcos Outlet's newest store - Burlington. On Friday, September 23, at the store's official ribbon cutting event, Burlington awarded De Zavala Elementary with a $5,000 AdoptAClassroom.org donation.
The following evening at the Texas State Football game vs. Houston Christian University, De Zavala music teacher, Ms. Michelle Quintero, was awarded the Extra Yard for Teachers Foundation grant worth $6,000 by Texas State Athletics.
Mermaid Capital of Texas
Rattlers from all throughout the district made a splash in the annual Mermaid Promenade on Saturday, September 24. The parade included 100+ organizations from all around Hays County.
Rattler Swim
The Rattler Swim team competed in their first meet of the year on Wednesday, September 21, in the New Braunfels ISD Invitational hosted at Das Rec in New Braunfels, Texas. The team will return to action on Saturday, October 8 at the Judson ISD Tri-Meet. To view their full schedule, click on the button below.
Heroes Running into all things Fun
Hernandez Elementary created a unique way for their students to form healthy habits by raising money for the campus. The school partnered with Adventure Dash Fun Run to create a 10-day fundraiser that includes a Rally Day, daily health and fitness breakouts, and a Dash Day! In the first week of the fundraiser, the campus raised more than $30,000. Go Heroes!
Rattler Homecoming Week
The Lady Rattlers went 2-0 this week beating Johnson City at home Tuesday night and winning their first district match of the season against Clemens. The Rattlers will take on Steele Tuesday evening at San Marcos High School in the Snake Pit scheduled for a 6:30PM start.

Shoutout to our Coordinator of Fine Arts, Mr. David Underwood. Every week he goes above and beyond to promote, cheer, and celebrate all Rattler Fine Arts programs from K-12. This past week alone he was the night pep-rally emcee, FNL emcee, mermaid Promenade announcer, attended the Cap-city festival and was at the Texas State football game as De Zavala's music teacher, Ms. Quintero was being awarded.
