Macleans Primary School Community
Merry Christmas Everyone
Here are we, the final newsletter of 2023 which means one more day of school for the year. What a year it has been at Macleans Primary indeed! A year of learning and of values. For both of us - teachers and parents - we have been witness to the children to a year of growth in all areas: academically, physically, socially and more! The academic and social growth and maturity you have seen in your child, whether be a year 1 or a year 6, has been because they have worked hard, supported so well by the class teacher and you the parent. This is our Home-School partnership that we are so proud of and will continue to develop so the we are true to our vision of TOGETHER THE BEST WE CAN BE - MAHI TAHI.
The Mahi Tahi will continue for most of you in 2024. To the parents of Year 6 children who are moving on to Intermediate School, we say a huge FAREWELL and thank you for your association with Macleans Primary. If there are younger siblings we look forward to a continued partnership with you. To the parents of Y1 to Y5 children we look forward to continuing our home-school partnership with you next year. To our Y6 graduating class of 2023...'Go well. I know Macleans Primary has prepared you well for Year 7 and beyond, both academically and socially. Please come back and visit us as we love to hear all about your achievements'. Check out the wonderful group of Year 6 Graduation photos below!
The Whakatauki Kete above refers to the importance of 'people' and the importance of all of us working together to achieve the best we can for all of the children. Our new teachers, additional SENCO and investment in Teacher Aides and Learning Assistants will continue to support the vision of a student centred, learning and values focussed curriculum. In this newsletter you will also see our new 2024 'student centred' model that will support the planning, organisation and direction of all we do at Macleans Primary.
A reminder that mid-late afternoon on Friday 26 January email there will be an email from your child's new class teacher for 2024 informing them of the new class and welcoming them to their new class for the year. Day 1 20224 is Wednesday 31 January. Hopefully the weather is all good as children will arrive at school and line up on the paved areas in their new classes; teachers will be around to help organise the children.
Super to see many parents at the 'Meet The teaching Teams' 2024 yesterday. You can download the presentations below to get an overview of what Y1-3 and Y4-Y6 will look like in 2024.
There will still be a notice or two sent out before day 1 of the 2024 school year - Wednesday 31 January. In the meantime we wish everyone a fantastic Christmas Time and Summer break and look forward to seeing all of the children again on Wednesday 31 January.
Marry Christmas, Happy New Year and have a safe and wonderful holiday time :)))

Board of Trustees End of 2023 Message
Dear Macleans Primary School Community
As the year comes to a close, we, the Board of Trustees, take this opportunity to reflect on our achievements and set our sights on future endeavours. This journey is not just about milestones but also about embracing our core values, which make Macleans Primary School a unique and enriching learning environment.
Embarking on a New Chapter: The School Hall
We are excited to announce the commencement of the construction of our new school hall, a project beginning in December 2023 and anticipated to be completed by April 2024. This development is not just a physical expansion but a symbol of our growth and resilience, reflecting our commitment to providing a supportive and safe environment that nurtures confident, self-managing, and resilient learners.
Honouring Our Teaching Staff: Upholding Our Values
Our teaching staff's dedication has been instrumental in fostering a learning environment that embodies our values. They have been pivotal in guiding and supporting our students towards achieving their personal best, not only in academics but in behaviour, effort, and social relationships. We have seen our students grow in confidence, engage in critical thinking, and exhibit creativity and collaboration - core aspects of 'Learning to Learn'. Our gratitude extends to the parents and the wider community for their partnership in this journey. To the teaching staff who are moving on, thank you for all that you have done for our school. We wish you all the best in your next endeavours.
Board’s Commitment: Excellence through Values
Our commitment goes beyond academic excellence. We aim to provide quality learning programmes and experiences that build on our children's diverse backgrounds and experiences, fostering lifelong learners who are both academically proficient, culturally aware, and respectful of others. This commitment aligns with our values of 'Learning to Live Together', where we celebrate successes and encourage pride in one’s culture while respecting the values and well-being of others.
Celebrating Diversity and Inclusivity
Our school's cultural diversity is our strength, with students representing many cultures annually. This diversity is acknowledged and celebrated in our learning experiences, enriching our students' understanding of different cultures and our multicultural society. We are dedicated to providing equal opportunities for all, catering to every child's specific learning needs, irrespective of ethnicity. This approach is in harmony with our value of 'Tikanga Māori and Cultural Diversity', where we incorporate aspects of Māori language and culture across our curriculum, reflecting the unique position of Māori culture in our school.
As we look ahead to 2024, we remain committed to these values, seeing them as the foundation for our continued success and excellence. Your unwavering support and involvement have been integral to our achievements, and we eagerly anticipate what the future holds for our community.
Warm Regards
Nick E, Elizma, Nick L, Kewal, Felicity, Robyn, Matthew

Hauora/Health & Well-Being: Physical Activity for Children
Read more about the benefits of physical activity for children HERE. Exercise can be anything that makes children's breathing faster and their heart beat quicker. Sitting less and exercising for 60 minutes a day (not necessarily at once) has many health benefits for children:
- They will develop healthy bones, muscles and joints.
- They will develop healthy heart and lungs.
- Their coordination, strength and muscle control will improve.
- They will maintain a healthy body weight.
- Their body will become more flexible.
- Their balance and posture will improve.
- Their brain will develop vital connections, leading to improved concentration and thinking skills.
- They are less likely to develop chronic diseases, such as heart disease and type 2 diabetes.
