Weekly Highlights
Walled Lake Competitive March Band earns Lundy Cup for second-straight year
The Walled Lake Competitive Marching Band opened its season with a bang. The combined band of Walled Lake Central and Walled Lake Western hit all the high notes to take first place in Flight 1 at the Great Lakes Invitational.
The WLMB claimed three caption awards in Flight 1: Best Music, Best Visual and Best General Effect. Their score of 82.600 was highest score across all flights and earned them the Lundy Cup for the second straight year.
Walled Lake Northern band and choir students enjoy music tour of the Big Apple
Forty Walled Lake Northern band and choir students enjoyed a trip of lifetime to New York City last week. The 4-day trip was jam packed with everything from stops at tourist hot spots to unique performance workshops.
The Knights visited the Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, 9/11 Memorial and Central Park just to name a few locations. They also had the opportunity to tour Radio City Music Hall, see Aladdin and Moulin Rouge, and participate in a performance workshop with a cast member of Moulin Rouge and a music director for the revival of Spamalot.
“It was a wonderful opportunity for our students to be immersed in a community that is so far beyond their norm,” said Walled Lake Northern choir director Ashley Ward. “Thank you to Walled Lake Consolidated Schools for supporting these types of experiences for our students! Everyone had a great time.”
Walled Lake Western’s Isabelle Kavanaugh finishes regular season as top golfer in the Lakes Valley Conference
Walled Lake Western senior Isabelle Kavanaugh closed out regular season play as the Lakes Valley Conference’s top golfer on Friday, September 29, after the LVC post-season tournament at Cattails Golf Club in South Lyon.
All conference honors are determined by a combined score of the pre- and post-season tournaments, where Kavanaugh’s combined score of 175 was the best among all Lake Valley Conference golfers.
“It’s a really big honor to be able to finish as the top golfer this year in the Lakes Valley Conference,” said Kavanaugh. “It’s something I wouldn’t have even thought was possible when I was a freshman.”
“To keep myself going these next few weeks is all about keeping my composure and not letting the inside bully get to me,” added Kavanaugh on what she needs to do to keep things rolling into the playoffs.
Warriors’ junior Graci Sauve, who shot a combined score of 192, joined Kavanaugh earning all-conference honors finishing 13th overall. Sauve is playing some of her best golf as of late after shooting a career best 37 (+2) against Cass Tech on September 21.
Walled Lake Northern's Francesca Guarano was also recognized as all-conference. The Knights' senior shot a combined 208 ranked 17th overall in the LVC.

Mrs. Kidder takes on Loon Lake students in silly string fight
A handful of Loons squared off with Mrs. Kidder on the blacktop on Wednesday afternoon with silly string in hand. The top fundraisers in each class for Loon Lake Elementary's annual Fall Mum Sale were rewarded with the opportunity to take on Mrs. Kidder in a silly string fight. The Loons raised over $7,300 selling mums, which they will use in efforts to build a pavilion on the playground and cover the overall cost of bringing a therapy dog to Loon Lake.
