GHMS Updates and Notes (10/11)
Principal's Corner
On October 6th, Godwin Heights Secondary Administration held its first Parent Focus Group for the 2023-24 school year. During the meeting, administration covered the importance of the Parent Compact that outlines the partnership agreement between parents, students, teachers, and administration. An opportunity was provided for parents to discuss the importance of the parent compact and provide feedback to administration on any changes or modifications they believed would be necessary.
In addition, data was shared with parents on both tardies and cell phones based on the policy changes from the 2023-24 student code of conduct. In regards to tardies, both the High School and Middle School staff have been very intentional to make sure teachers, support staff, and administration are in the hallways at all passing times to encourage students to be on time for class. As you review the data slides, you will notice the data supports the plan is working and 95% of our students are getting to class on time. We have also experienced a drop in tardies from last year to this year of 11.6%
As you review the data on cell phones, you will see that we have had a 410% percent gain in cell phone referrals this school year at the middle school. This may seem concerning to you but instead, I see it as consistency in our policy. Students are not allowed to have cell phones out or on from 7:30 to 2:35 in order for learning to be the priority. We have been very consistent and will follow through to ensure that students know and understand this policy. Please continue to encourage your students to put away their phones during the school day.
As always, I encourage you to reach out with any questions or concerns. I also encourage you to sign up for a parent teacher conference to continue to build a strong partnership with us to educate your child.
