Week of 11/27-12/1
Reminders for the This Week
We hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving break! We are excited to get back into the classroom with your students and begin new content!
Please remember to send your students to school wearing their uniform clothes and sneakers each day. Students should also have a change of clothes in their backpacks in the case of an accident.
Please remember to send in excuses when your student is out sick.
We understand that things happen and transportation changes occur. Please let your students teacher or the front office know of any transportation changes before 2:30pm. Last minute transportation changes make it difficult for your student's teachers to get your student where they need to be for dismissal in a timely and effective manner.

How to Help at Home:
High frequency words/ heart words students should know how to spell and read:
It is incredibly important that your student is able to read and spell these words. We are seeing that students that do not know them, are having their reading fluency impeded.
was, said, they, their, there, were, where, any, many, want, walk, talk, very, does, would, could, should, my, by, who, one, once
We add new words to this list each week, if your student can fluently read and spell a word. At the end of the year students should be able to read and spell 125 High Frequency words (including the "heart words" or irregularly spelled words.)
It is a great time to work on your child's reading fluency. To do this, have your student read the same passage or story several times. This helps with students being able to read familiar words in a fluent manner, which can assist in reading and oral comprehension as well as their oral language skills.
Please also work with your student on fact families. Fact Families are when there are three numbers with related addition and subtraction equations such as:
8, 9, 17
8+9=17
9+8=17
17-8=9
17-9=8
Once students have a firm understanding of fact families, try making three adden equations like:
3+6+4=
Working on False Equations can be a great help in number sense and math fluency.
Write down a problem and ask if the equation is true (correct), or if it is false (not correct).

Hey!
Can you add the following this week and next week as well, please? Thank you! (you’re already reminding them of Turkey Bingo where they can win a free turkey, right? I won’t reiterate that in my section if you are!)
WELCOME! ¡BIENVENIDOS! BEM-VINDO!

Fact Families: fact families are related addition and subtraction facts that use the same numbers. Fact families help kids understand the relationship between addition and subtraction. For example, using the numbers 8, 5, and 13, students can produce two addition number sentences and 2 related subtraction sentences.
See the fact family and video below.
5 + 8 = 13
8 + 5 = 13
13 - 5 = 8
13 - 8 = 5
From DLI:
Dear DLI families,
Please continue working on math facts, letter sounds, syllables, and sentence formation in both English and Spanish.
