Principal's Message
Dear Edison Families:
I am elated to share that our campus recently hosted an external audit of our school-wide systems of behavioral support for all students and the early projections are that Edison is once again headed for state recognition! Huge thanks to Ms. Espinoza, our PBIS Coordinator, our entire PBIS Team, faculty and staff who balance our high expectations with consistency and increasing levels of support for all students!
Open communication plays a key role in nurturing a positive school culture here at Edison. One of the most effective ways you can contribute to a safe school environment is to talk with your child every day about what’s going on at school and in your child’s life.
Have an open discussion about:
Our school wide expectations – respect, responsibility and integrity
Talk about the reasons for certain expectations. Review consequences and what can happen when we make poor choices. Our school’s safety and security procedures. If you don’t know what they are, find out.
Personal safety issues, such as ways to keep safe when traveling to and from school.
Your own family values, rules and expectations for your child.
The impact of violence in the media—TV, books, video games, music and movies.
Strategies for solving problems peacefully and diffusing tense situations.
Social media and the need to use it responsibly.
The importance of telling a teacher or other adult if your child sees something that doesn’t seem right.
And remember: If you hear something that concerns you, inform your child's teacher or the school immediately. Schools are safest when parents, students and educators work together.
One more thing, as we look to finalize plans for kids next year we need your input . In order to determine District needs and capacity to serve all of our students next year, please submit your program/school type you intend for each of your children for the 2022-2023 school year.
Please submit one survey for each of your children today – Program/School Choice Survey
As always, I look forward to hearing from you. You are always welcome to connect with me, just call ahead at (909)984-5618 and the door will open.
Wednesday -- Wear Your Favorite Animal Print
Friday -- Wear Blue and Green
Safety Alert: 4th – 8th Grade Helmet Required
4-8 grade students may ride a bicycle, scooter, or skateboard to school as long as a helmet is used. Other appropriate protective gear is strongly recommended.
Role models make all the difference
One of the best ways we can teach kids respectful behavior toward others is to model it. Are you setting an example of respect? Take this quiz to find out:
Do you obey laws meant to protect people, such as obeying the speed limit and using a crosswalk? Do you speak about the importance of doing so?
Do you speak respectfully of teachers and all they do to help children learn?
3. Do you set an example of courtesy? Do you accept people’s right to beliefs different from your own?
Do you make it a family rule to treat others as you would like to be treated?
Do you demonstrate moral reasoning? Let your child see you wrestle with such questions as, “What is the right thing to do?” “How would I want to be treated in this situation?”
How well are you doing? More yes answers mean you are modeling respect and social awareness for your child. For no answers, try some of those ideas.

Celebrate Earth Day with fun online learning activities:
Earth Day is April 22. Help your child find eco-friendly ways to celebrate the planet by logging onto:
Recycle City, www3.epa.gov/recyclecity. Students can explore Recycle City and learn how doing simple things at home and in their neighborhood can help them reduce waste, use less energy and save money. Students will also find games, activities and resources all about the benefits of recycling.
Biomes of the World, www.teachersfirst.com/lessons/biomes. This site offers an online research project that will interest seriously studious kids. Using its outline and resources, students can discover how ecosystems depend on one another. Students will also find suggestions for cool ways to present the data they gather. (Keep that in mind during science-fair season!)
Yellowstone National Park, www.nps.gov/yell/learn/kidsyouth/index.htm#onthisPage-7. Students can use an interactive map to learn more about the park and investigate its ecology, history and ongoing preservation efforts.
WaterSense for Kids, www.epa.gov/watersense/watersense-kids. Students will find out how much water a typical family in the U.S. uses every day and learn effective ways to reduce water usage.
Energy Kids, www.eia.gov/kids/games-and-activities. This site is filled with energy-related riddles, games, puzzles, experiments and more. Students will learn about energy sources and ways to conserve energy.

COVID-19 Guidelines
While California Department of Public Health (CDPH) strongly recommends that individuals continue to wear face coverings in indoor settings, the choice to mask is at the discretion of each student, employee, and family.
We will continue to implement the remaining layered mitigation strategies including:
staying home when sick
hand washing
air filtration
group contact tracing
antigen and pcr testing
quarantine
daily disinfecting and cleaning
Additionally, CDC recommends that everyone 5 years and older protect themselves from COVID-19 by getting vaccinated. Everyone ages 12 years and older should stay up to date on their COVID-19 vaccines and get a booster shot when eligible. Please consult with your primary care physician.
You can find more details in OMSD's School Reopening and Safety Plan.
Students Presenting Symptoms at Home -- Please Contact Our Health Office
In an effort to maintain a healthy school environment and to mitigate the spread of the COVID-19 virus, we ask that all parents screen their child for COVID-19 symptoms each morning before they send them to school, and keep them at home if they are sick using our Student Symptom Decision Tree.
This shared responsibility is critical to our ability to keep everyone safe, healthy and attending in person each day.
Please report your child’s illness with details of all symptoms to our health office at 909-984-5618. Our Health Office will follow up on all students that are at home with COVID-19 symptoms.
