Classroom Connection📓
Math ➕
Our younger elementary students are using calendar, games, and manipulatives to understand physical representations of numbers. The older students are working on place value and reviewing multiplication facts. The elementary students are also playing a game called Stump Mrs. Evers, where students try to think of activities that do not involve math, and Mrs. Evers tries to prove them wrong!
In middle school, our students are stepping up a notch with number sense as they learn about decimals, integers, and rational numbers.
Some of our high school students are using manipulatives too, but to create arrays of factors. Other students are using order of operations to evaluate expressions and learning the foundations of geometry with lines, points, planes and angles. Our Algebra 2 students are already prepping to take the ACT in the spring with a focus on solving linear equations.
Health/PE 👟
All students are learning about procedures, how to be safe in the gym and how to work with their friends in the first few weeks of PE. Elementary and middle school students have been playing games like Floor is Lava as well as Secret Pathways. While doing this, students are working on leadership, communication, delegating roles, balance, and gross motor skills!
High school students have been working on teamwork activities on designated PE days. During health lessons, they are learning Microsoft Teams Classrooms, and will begin transitioning to our Goal-Setting Unit and focusing on SMART Goals.
Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC) Spotlight🔦
Elementary students are learning orientation and mobility this week as they learn our building and how to navigate through it. Middle schoolers are learning to navigate independently as they travel to the classes on their schedule. They have also received their technology and are working on word processing skills and using email effectively.

Tips for Making and Keeping Friends:
- To have good friends you have to be a good friend.
- The more you know and like yourself, the easier it will be to find friends who treat you the way you wish to be treated.
- Try to have lots of different kinds of friends. There is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all friend.
- One way to meet new friends is to follow your curiosities, interests, and passions, In other words, do what you like to do and you will likely meet others who share common interests as you.
- Make friends with people who like and accept you for you.
- Good friends listen to each other, encourage each other, show they are interested in each other, respect one another, and help each other out.
- Conflict between friends is normal; a good friend will put in the effort to work it out.
- Refuse to say unkind things about your friends, even when they make a mistake. (Because we all make mistakes sometimes.)
- If you make a mistake, apologize. If your friend makes a mistake, try to forgive them and move on.
- Find ways to show your friends that you appreciate and care about them.
