STUDENT PICK UP AND DROP OFF
- If possible, please drop off your student along Taft Ave. or Nichols Ave. near the campus as traffic in the parking lot as drop-off lanes will be congested BEFORE SCHOOL AND AT THE END OF THE SCHOOL DAY.
- Please be patient and follow the directions of our staff who are directing traffic and helping students safely enter campus.
Administration Update
National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist: Jason Trinh
Please join us in congratulating Jason Trinh '24 for his accomplishment in being named Semifinalist in the National Merit Scholarship Program. Jason is one of five high school students in Orange Unified School District who have earned this distinction. He is one of approximately 16,000 students in the country -- Well done, Jason!

September is Attendance Awareness Month
Orange Unified School District continues to strive for high overall student attendance rates. Student attendance has a profound impact on student success, funding, and resources. Our theme is "We Champion Attendance." Let's all work together to keep our students in school, attending their classes, and working towards their educational, career, and life goals!

5-Star Students Program and Student APP Download
This year we will be using the 5-Star Students program at VP to help students increase their involvement on campus and hall passes. Students can earn points for attending events and participating in activities. More information will be shared about this app next week!

College Application Parent Night Sept. 25 @6pm

Homecoming 2023 A Night Under The Spotlight
A Night Under The Spotlight Homecoming Dance will be held on Saturday, October 7th from 7-10 pm on campus. Ticket sales are full swing. TIcket prices are as follows:
September 18-29th: $55 with ASB and $60 without ASB
October 2-6th: $65 with ASB and $70 without ASB
October 7th (Tickets will be sold at the door): $80
All students attending the Homecoming Dance need to fill out a Dance Contract. Students bringing non-VP guests need to complete their Dance Contract AND a Guest Contract. All Guest Contracts need to be submitted to Mrs. Vandercook for approval BEFORE you purchase your ticket. QR codes are posted below.
VPHS represented in OCTA Teen Council 2023-24
Congrats to Preston Pham ‘24 and Alexander Tran ‘25 on being selected as part of the Orange County Transportation Authority Teen Council for 2023-2024. With a focus on leadership and teamwork, Preston and Alex will help promote public transportation throughout the county, working on marketing campaigns and learning more about public policy and civil engineering.
September 15 to October 15 is National Hispanic American Heritage Month
Spanish Club, under advisor Mrs. Espinoza, have completed a set of door murals which pay tribute to the generations of Hispanic Americans who have positively influenced and enriched our nation and society.
VPHS Cup Series: Students v. Teachers
Last year we hosted the Educators Cup… This time, it’s the VPHS Cup Series where we give our students and staff the opportunity to face off against each other!
The race is scheduled to begin October 2nd. That should give you all enough time to get some practice in!

VPHS Concert Band Commemorates Patriot Day
On Monday, September 11th, 2023, the Villa Park High School Concert Band, under the direction of Mr. Ed Corbett, performed "My Country, Tis of Thee, " in observance of Patriot Day at the Richard M. Nixon Presidential Library.

Meet the Staff
Christian Fabian - Chemistry Teacher

Christian Fabian, our dedicated chemistry teacher at Villa Park High School, brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to the classroom. He attended Santiago High School in Garden Grove and actively engaged in extracurricular activities such as NHS and cross country and track. Christian pursued his higher education at UCI, majoring in Chemistry and Education. During his college years, he participated in the Cal Teach program and worked as a TA in local schools, showcasing his commitment to education. Before joining VP, Christian worked in Garden Grove, teaching AP and honors chemistry. He joined our team in 2020 as a science teacher, specializing in chemistry. Beyond his professional life, Christian enjoys playing musical instruments like the guitar, drums, piano, and bass. He's also an avid mountain biker, often exploring the scenic trails of Santiago Oaks, and cherishes spending quality time with his daughter. One of his favorite memories at VP is participating in the Mario Kart tournament, showcasing his fun-loving spirit and dedication to building a vibrant school community.
Rich Simons - Assistant Principal

Rich Simons, Assistant Principal at Villa Park, graduated from Marina High School in Huntington Beach, where he was an active member of the swim team and surf team. Mr. Simons pursued higher education at the University of Oregon, majoring in History and English. While in college, he remained engaged in various school events. Before joining VP, he spent 20 years teaching, and worked at El Modena High School. Rich started his journey at VP in 2022, taking on the role of Assistant Principal. His favorite memories at VP include participating in the Orange County Leadership camp (OCL) with ASB students and the memorable senior events that unfold throughout the campus. On a lighter note, he's a proud parent of three kids and has a unique story to share about a close encounter with a moose while mountain biking.

Sports A Week in Review

Tennis
Girls tennis travelled to Fountain Valley High School and had a good fight losing 15-3.
Boys Water Polo
Boys waterpolo went against Woodbridge and managed to pull the game into overtime with a close game losing 8-9.
Girls Volleyball
Girls volleyball had an away game at Brea Olinda and pulled through with a win with the score of 3-0. Adding onto this week, our girls varsity volleyball team played against Canyon losing 0-3. During this Friday and Saturday, our girls varsity team will be playing at an invitational Bellflower Tournament as well.
Football
Our boys football played an amazing game at Fred Kelly scoring 45-0 against Eastlake, continuing on their winning streak and currently 4-0.
Girls Golf
Girls golf played two games this week, one against El Modena and the other against Yorba Linda
Girls Flag Football
Our varsity girls flag football team has two games this weekend on Saturday vs Esperanza and El Dorado.
