Students Requesting a Schedule Change
We have received late schedule change requests recently. Most schedule change requests will be disapproved at this time in the semester due to the following reasons:
- Would not earn credit for the 1st semester.
- Entering a class this late in the semester for the first time is too difficult to catch up.
- Classes were created based on students' requests.
- Some classes are already at capacity.
- Would possibly need to change other classes due to classes not aligning.
Students who are struggling are strongly encouraged to ask their teachers for assistance. Teachers are available for extra support from 7:10 to 7:40 and 2:10 to 2:40 Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays and 8:30-9:00 am and 2:10-2:40 pm on Wednesdays. Students should work with teachers to schedule time.
Sno-Isle Technical Skill Center Applications
Accepted students would be transported to Sno-Isle for half of their day, earning three credits, then return to Stanwood HS to take three classes here. For additional information regarding program offerings, please Click Here and select the Classes Tab. This video shows a brief overview of the program.
Applications are now open, and programs are filling up fast. Interested students should apply now by clicking here. Students will need to register for an account in the upper right corner and ensure to press the Submit button in the popup that comes at the end of the application.
For questions, don't hesitate to get in touch with the CTE Director, Ross Short, at rshort@stanwood.wednet.edu
Exciting News from the YMCA for Camano Island Families!
The Stanwood-Camano YMCA has been awarded a grant from Island County Grant, which will specifically aid youth who live on Camano Island.
This grant enables the YMCA to provide Teen Memberships, Teen Programming, Teen Swim/Sport Lessons, and more to those who qualify. The YMCA believes supporting the health, social development, and overall well-being of local youth is a vital investment in the future of our community.
To be eligible for these benefits, students must be residents of Camano Island, in grades 6th through 12th, and no older than 17.

Reminder - Leaving a Closed Campus School During School Hours - Including Lunch
Our schools are closed campuses. This means students are to remain on campus from the start of the school day until the final bell. Lunchtime is an on-campus activity. A student shall not leave the school campus during the school day unless excused by a parent/guardian through the school office. Students will not be excused for daily "off-campus" privileges or activities such as leaving the campus for lunch, eating lunch in private vehicles, etc.
Here is the district procedure that states this process. Please review page 4 of 5 titled "Leaving a Closed Campus School During School Hours."
Attendance (EVERY DAY COUNTS)
We understand that students miss school for various reasons, many of which cannot be predicted or prevented. However, research shows that missing even 10 percent of school, or about 18 days in a year, can negatively impact a student's performance.
If your child is experiencing mental, emotional, or physical health issues that result in excessive (more than two in a month) or long-term absences, please get in touch with their counselor, the school nurse, or an administrator for assistance.
When students are absent, it is essential to excuse your students' absences within 72 hours of the student's return to school.
Please use the below process:
- Parents and guardians may excuse absences by calling the attendance secretary at 360-629-1305, through Absence Notification using their Family Access password, by emailing kmccurry@stanwood.wednet.edu, or by sending a note to the attendance office with the student.
- Messages on notes, voicemail, or email should include the first AND last name of the student, the date of the absence, the reason for the absence, and the parent or guardian's signature.
- Stanwood High School defines excused absences as due to illness, appointment, or family business.
- Oversleeping, car trouble, traffic congestion, and missing the bus are not considered excused absences.
- If the student has classes at Stanwood High School AND Lincoln Hill High School, you must contact BOTH schools to excuse absences.
A Reminder About Bus Passes
This is a reminder per our Student Handbook (found HERE - page 12), we can only accept written requests for bus passes from a parent or guardian before 12:30 p.m. The best practice is to send a note in with your student in the morning. The note should include your student's first and last name, the name of the student they are riding with, and the bus/route number.
Update on AP Tests - Deadline extended to Nov 15th
AP Families, the deadline to pay for your child's AP Exam has been extended to November 15. Please have your child pay for their test by November 15th at the ASB Window in the Main Office. Any tests ordered after that date will be assessed a $40 late fee. If you or your child have any questions or concerns, please have your student speak with their AP teacher or email Mr. Hoffmann at ahoffman@stanwood.wednet.edu
Fall Play - Radium Girls
November 17th and 18th @7 pm in the PAC
Come join us for the fall play, a stirring drama, Radium Girls by D W Gregory.
In 1926, radium was a miracle cure, Madame Curie an international celebrity, and luminous watches the latest rage—until the girls who painted them began to fall ill with a mysterious disease. Inspired by a true story, Radium Girls traces the efforts of Grace Fryer, a dial painter, as she fights for her day in court.
Powerful and engrossing, Radium Girls is an unflinching look at the peculiarly American obsessions with health, wealth, and the commercialization of science.
Tickets are available at the door: Adults $9 and Students $7 or online (with an additional fee) through GoFan at: https://gofan.co/app/school/WA23340

WESCO Spectator Guidelines & Sportsmanship Code
The essential elements of character-building and ethics in interscholastic athletics are embodied in the concept of seven core principles: sportsmanship, discipline, leadership, teamwork, responsibility, dedication, and respect. To demonstrate sportsmanship in the stands, we ask all spectators to adhere to these 5 basic guidelines:
- I will appreciate all good plays and players whether they compete for my team or my opponent.
- I will remember that school athletics are an extension of the classroom, and that learning is taking place.
- I will be positive and use respectful language towards players, coaches, officials, and other spectators.
- I will respect the abilities and sensitivities of our opponents and officials, regardless of the outcome of the contest.
- I will remember that my actions reflect on others, including students, school, and the community.
Class OF 2024 Information
Get levy facts on our website
Why do school districts ask voters to approve levies? In short: To bridge the gap between what the state provides and the services our community wants.
Levy dollars help pay for staffing and operations, including for sports, most safety and security personnel, and many other staffing costs such as teaching, nursing, and counseling.
This replacement levy would continue funding for educational programs so all Stanwood-Camano students have opportunities to succeed in school.
