Choral Festival
Twenty-seven chorus students in seventh- and eighth-grade performed at the Stevenson Consortium Choir Festival this week.
"Our members have been working for over two months to master the fun and challenging repertoire for this event," said DW Choral Director Matthew Clark.
These student-musicians joined over 120 of their peers from other sender schools to sing a variety of songs including Kusimama, Song of the Apple Tree, We Won't Stop Dreaming, and When You Believe under the direction of high school choir teachers Alice Nuteson and Kirstin Snelten.
The consortium choral festival gives students a positive initial exposure to performing in high school by introducing them to the Stevenson choir teachers and choir members, who welcome them and illustrate the ways in which students can include chorus in their academic, musical, and social lives. This special event is a highlight of the season and one that our students remember for years to come. More than half of our 2022 DW chorus graduates currently sing in choir at Stevenson, demonstrating that experiences such as this serve to encourage students to sustain their participation in chorus through high school and beyond.
