Lakeland Highlights
2023-2024
Superintendent's Message
Superintendent’s Message
Greetings Lakeland Families! The month of September has flown by! The staff and students are hard at work; focused on learning. It has been fun to be in classrooms to see the great things that are happening. I hope you take the time to read through this month’s highlights. There is a lot of important information for you.
On behalf of the district I would like to publicly thank Calvary Rathdrum Church, Athol Baptist Church, New Beginnings Baptist Church, Rathdrum Bible Church, and Jesus Loves Rathdrum. These groups worked together to purchase the plaques bearing our national motto, "In God We Trust", that are now displayed at all eleven of our schools! We appreciate this very generous gift!
In recognition of the issues we experienced through the rezoning process, Dr. Paslay and I have put together a rezoning protocol. We would love to have some feedback from our parents. If you could click on the link below and provide input, it would be greatly appreciated.
Friday, October 6th is a statewide professional development day for teachers and staff. There is no school for students that day. Because the District Office staff will be participating in this day of professional development, the District Office will be closed on the 6th.
Thank you for sharing your students with us! It is an honor and a privilege to work with all of you on behalf of the staff and students of this district. Have a wonderful October!
Warm Regards,
Lisa Arnold

Snow Routes and Late Start Information
In an effort to keep our students in school as much as possible through the winter months, our transportation director has created snow routes and 2 hour late start schedules. The snow routes are for our mountainous areas where we can’t always access our higher elevations due to snow and/or ice. The information provided is specific to each route. In the event that additional time in the morning provides the ability to safely get students to school, we will use our 2 hour late start schedules. In the event that any change to our school day, due to inclement weather, occurs you will be notified via Skylert and/or Transfinder. If you have any questions about the information provided here, please reach out to our transportation department and they will happily assist you. The number at the bus garage is 208-687-0221.

How to Help Your Child Succeed in School
It all starts with good attendance!
Make good attendance a priority. This positive habit not only prepares your child for academic success but also opens the door to success for the rest of her life!Creating a schedule can help streamline your morning routine. Involve the kids in brainstorming and deciding on the order of tasks. For example, getting dressed before breakfast can motivate them.
- Choosing outfits the night before saves time and avoids clothing battles in the morning. Encourage your kids to set out their clothes next to their beds, including underwear and socks.
- Find shoes the night before and have your kids set them next to the front door. This saves you from frantically searching for missing shoes in the morning.
- Ensuring your kids get enough sleep is crucial. Having them in bed early helps them wake up cheerful and ready to tackle the day. Late bedtimes can lead to grogginess and grumpy mornings.
- Prepare as much as possible the night before. Making lunches, putting homework in backpacks, and checking for permission slips can be done in the evening. This also includes showering, picking out your own outfit, and preparing your work bag.
- Keep morning chores to a minimum to avoid delays. Feeding pets, making beds, and tidying up breakfast dishes are manageable tasks for kids. Save bigger chores for evening or weekends.
- Make use of car time when necessary. Eating toast, brushing hair, and putting on shoes can be done while strapped into a car seat.
- Have an emergency pack in the car's glove box for rushed mornings. Include a sports bar (for breakfast), sugarless gum (for teeth cleaning), a hairbrush, barrettes, and some money for school lunches.
- Remember to take breaks on weekends and occasionally when needed. Letting the kids stay up a little later and striving to sleep in on Saturdays and Sundays can be refreshing.
