A Message from Principal Jackson
Hello Miner Families,
I wanted to write to provide some updates and information to the school community.
As all of you know I announced on February 5th that we had two staff members (who were not close contacts with each other) who had tested positive for COVID. I am relieved to announce that both of those staff members are feeling better and ready to return to the building. Those staff members who were identified as potential close contacts have all completed their mandatory quarantine and, thankfully, did not exhibit any symptoms.
What we have learned from this unfortunate set of circumstances is that the protocols in place have worked. While we never want anyone to get sick, we are very pleased that there was no spread within the building. As a result, tomorrow (weather permitting) we will be reopening all of the in-person learning classrooms that were either closed or the opening of them was paused while staff quarantined.
I provided more details about the safety protocols in place in the letter sent to the community earlier today. For those who didn’t receive it you can find it here: Letter to the Community 2.17.2021
With that said, we have a lot of exciting things going on! Here are a few others:
· Budget Season – Budget season is upon us! We would love for families to be able to submit feedback. Please consider completing this one question survey this week in advance of next Tuesday’s LSAT meeting. Budget Feedback
· Term 3 has begun. All term 2 report cards for students in K-5 have been mailed and families should be receiving them shortly if you haven’t already. If you have questions, please reach out to your child’s teacher!
· Black History Month: We hope that you have been taking time to reinforce the Black History facts of the week provided on the Miner Canvas page. Many of our classes have also been working on writing prompts for our Black History Writing prompts. On Wednesday, February 24th our students will be engaging in our Black History Month Celebration. I want to thank all of the teachers and staff who have put in a great deal of effort to make these events possible for our students!
· Mutual Aid Network – The mutual aid network is planning their community table events for the next two months. Keep an eye out for details!
Please staff same and let the school know if we can support you and your family.
Respectfully,
Principal Jackson
SCHOOL YEAR 2020-2021
Virtual Learning Attendance
Students are required to attend virtual learning each day, Monday through Friday. Student attendance is tracked by logging into Canvas each day. Please make sure students log in between 6am and 11:59pm to receive credit for attending. The log in must be through CANVAS to ensure the attendance is captured daily.
District attendance requirements still exist. If your student is going to miss school, please let their teacher know and send a note to Ms. Joseph via email at chelsea.joseph@k12.dc.gov.
Medical and Dental Forms
UPDATE: Families must have updated immunization in order to claim their in person learning classroom space if offered. Those who do not have updated documentation prior to November 9th will risk losing their seat and it will be given to the next family on the waitlist.
Reminders
Feeding Site (Updated)
UPDATE: While appointments at Miner will need to be scheduled moving forward, the school will remain a feeding site. Families are welcome to come between 10am-2pm for a meal. The cafeteria staff will bring the meal to families at the door.
