Weekly Newsletter
October 27, 2023
Hello WES families,
I hope that you had a wonderful week! It certainly has been a great one here at WES! Today, we concluded our "Start with Hello" week. Throughout the week we focused on being kind and being inclusive. Together, we will continue to reinforce these themes inside and outside of school.
There are a lot of exciting events and activities happening here at WES the next couple of days. This weekend the PTO is hosting a Clothing Drive. You can drop clothes off anytime near the front entrance/alcove. On Saturday, there is Trunk or Treat here at school. Of course, Tuesday is Halloween! For all of these events, please see below for detailed information.
Enjoy the weekend!

Music Update
Please join me in welcoming Miss Michelle Schuman to WES. Miss Schuman will be filling in for Mrs. Elban as our music teacher for the remainder of the year, and her first day here at WES will be Tuesday, November 8th. After that date, chorus students and families will be receiving updates from Miss Schuman.
I would like to thank Mr. Caleb Sharp for stepping in during this time! Mr. Sharp jumped right in, picked right up where Mrs. Elban left off, and he helped wherever was needed!
Office Emails
Please note that Mrs. Ricciardi has retired and her email is not being forwarded.
Halloween
- We will celebrate Halloween with a parade and classroom parties on Tuesday, October 31st.
- Like previous years, the WES Halloween Parade will take place at 9:45am and the parties for grades K-5 will follow immediately after.
- 6th grade will have their party in the PM and teachers will be in touch with details.
- PM Kindergarten will have the parade and party in the afternoon. Mrs. Stahl will communicate to her parents about the times in a couple of weeks.
- Selecting the right costume is very exciting for our children and is a very important decision for some students to make. Please remember that costumes incorporating weapons and/or depicting violence are not appropriate to bring to school. Please be selective when helping your child choose a costume to bring to school. Your support is greatly appreciated!
- WES PTO will host Trunk or Treat on Saturday, October 28th - 4:30pm-6:00pm
Library News
A huge shout-out and THANK YOU to WES Mom and Author Vicki Lombardi for this week's Kindergarten and First Grade author visit! Students enjoyed hearing Mrs. Lombardi read her book The Once Lonely Ghost and learning all about the writing, revising, and publishing process.
This Week in Library
Sixth Grade learned about the origins of science fiction and read a picture book biography about Mary Shelley entitled She Made a Monster by Lynn Fulton.
Fifth Grade participated in a Houdini-themed BreakoutEDU activity based on Brian Selznick's historical fiction book The Houdini Box. Congratulations to the teams that broke into the box to discover Houdini's secret!
