Update from the Superintendent
San Marcos Unified School District News
It’s an exciting time as we enter the final few months of the school year: celebrating student successes, planning end of the year events, and looking forward to the future. I want to personally thank every one of our students, parents, teachers, administrators and support staff for making this year a great success so far and I look forward to a strong close to 2022-23.
In particular, I want to thank the many SMUSD students who have stepped up to provide feedback and input on their experience in school and how we can continually improve it. I personally have spoken with many students through my Superintendent-Student Advisory Council, school clubs and affinity groups and continually am impressed with the thoughtfulness and maturity of our students. Their input is helping shape programs, class offerings, and academic pathways in SMUSD that will help our students build the competencies in our Portrait of a Graduate. I often say that in SMUSD, education doesn’t happen to our students, but with them. So thank you, students!
Enrollment is open for the 2023-24 school year, and I invite you to take a look at the short video below highlighting the many things that make our district so amazing. Feel free to share with others, and as always, thank you for your ongoing support!

Let’s Face It. Together. Mental Health program
Our new mental health program, Let’s Face It. Together in partnership with the City of San Marcos is going strong!
By connecting students with additional services, including our new Wellness Teams and a 24/7 crisis text line, the goal is to improve their mental health and quality of life.
