Week of April 16th, 2023
From the Desk of Mrs. Methvin
Greetings IGA Family,
April showers bring May flowers! We have certainly experienced the showers and some “chilly” weather upon returning from Spring Break. It has been a busy week at IGA, with an abundance of smiles, laughter, and learning. This school year is winding down quickly. We have completed 150 days of learning and growing at IGA. What an EXCITING time to be an IGA Imagineer!
The Georgia Milestones for elementary will begin on Monday, April 24th. That is a mere 5 school days away. The Georgia Milestones Assessment System (Georgia Milestones) is a comprehensive assessment system spanning grades 3 through high school. Georgia Milestones measures how well students have learned the knowledge and skills outlined in the state-adopted content standards in English language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. Students in grades 3 through 8 will take End-of-Grade (EOG) assessments in English language arts and mathematics. Students in grades 5 and 8 will take the EOG science assessment, and students in grade 8 will take the EOG social studies assessment. Georgia Milestones is designed to provide students with critical information about their own achievement and their readiness for their next level of learning—be it the next grade, the next course, or the next endeavor (college or career).
If you have questions or concerns, talk with your child’s teacher. They can provide specific information about the Georgia Milestones as it relates to your child. Resources to help your child prepare for Georgia Milestones are available on the Georgia Department of Education’s website at http://testing.gadoe.org. To see what online testing is like, you and your child may visit the Experience Online Testing Georgia website at http://gaexperienceonline.com. The items on the demonstration tests are general and represent multiple grade levels. They do not assess student achievement. (Georgia Department of Education, 2022)
Many of our students were recognized at last week's HGRESA Awards Banquet held at the Dubose Porter Building at Oconee Fall Line Technical College. We are so proud of our students for showing #TheDublinWay and paving the way to high achievement and success!
We also want to give a huge shout to our Dublin Middle School Baseball Team! On Friday, the Fighting Irish played Vidalia for the Region Title as part of a three game series. The Irish fell short the first game; however, with determination, tenacity, and discipline came out with a win in the second game! The final game will be played tomorrow, April 17th at Hilburn Park. The game begins at 4:00 p.m. Please come out and show this team some support letting them know how proud we are of them!
Our Character Trait for the month of March was Courageous. The March Students of the Month were chosen based on that character trait. The Students of the Month for March are as follows: Lennon Osburn (Pre-K), Rose Pittman (Kindergarten), Price Jones (1st Grade), Ethan Wade (2nd Grade), Camden King (3rd Grade), and Eli Bloodworth (4th Grade). Congratulations!!! Parents were invited to eat lunch with the Students of the Month on Friday, April 14.
