Week of February 24, 2020
Congrats Wrestlers!
Dear Ahtolton Families,
This past week was marked by our Black History Month program on Thursday and Friday. The Thursday evening event had Kweisi Mfume as keynote speaker. Mr. Mfume shared how he never “officially” graduated from high school but was forced to take a different route -- via GED. The former congressman and former head of the NAACP encouraged our students to get the most out of their college experience and help to share in the theme of historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) showcased by members of Atholton’s Black Student Union.
This week we will celebrate the academic achievements of our students for the second quarter with our Honor Roll ice cream celebration this coming Friday. Additionally, spring sports tryouts begin this coming Saturday. Just a reminder that this Tuesday evening, our coaches will host a “Turn It In” night from 6pm - 7:30pm. As mentioned last week, you can receive assistance with registering your son or daughter on-line or turn in hard copies of your spring athletic forms. The event will take place in the cafeteria. Those students who participated in a Fall and/or Winter sport this year only need to turn in a new Athletic Participation form and a recent Residency Bill (dated on or after January 15, 2020). Please contact Mr. Senisi at michael_senisi@hcpss.org if you have any questions.
The Howard County Wrestling Championships took place this past weekend. Our Raiders represented well taking home two county titles. Congratulations to seniors David Panda and Michael Altamirano for winning their respective weight class. Moreover, David Panda became the 27th wrestler in Howard County history to win three county titles. He defeated River Hill’s Jonah Richardson by decision, 11-9, in overtime. Senior Michael Altimarano won his first county title by taking down the defending county champion Shayan Kassiri, 10-2. Congratulations to Maxime Arbareri and Desmon Craig as well as Pete Frazier for their top 5 finishes as well. Thanks to Coach Lindblad and Coach Billups for helping to create a great weekend for Raider Nation wrestling! You can read about it all here.
Wishing everyone a fantastic week!
Warmly,
Robert A. Motley
