Fronteras Spanish Immersion Charter School
Minutos de Mrs. Hutchins
Immersion Education – Teaching academic content in another language
Hello Fronteras Families!
During last Friday’s Professional Development day, we focused on the school district’s Core 4 standard; Social Emotional Learning (SEL). SEL is defined as “The process of building skills in managing emotions, interactions, relationships, and making responsible decisions.” The district SEL coordinator, Lisa Stewart, provided the training, which encompassed not only SEL information and strategies, but Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS). PBIS is designed to be positive, preventative, and instructional. We were elated to realize that PBIS and SEL are embedded fully in our behavior management system; Capturing Kids’ Hearts (CKH), which allows us to continue to grow and develop our CKH proficiency. We will continue this training during our December 1st early release.
PLEASE NOTE – Grades K-5 have adopted a new policy regarding homework. One of our goals is to remove the punitive nature of elementary homework that inadvertently causes negative feelings and attitudes toward school. Ultimately, this returns the power to our parents to determine how their children should spend their afternoon/evening hours. It was never a school’s place to tell parents or students what they should do once they leave our doors at the end of the school day. For parents not sure how best to support their children in the afternoons and evenings, follow these steps on our school’s webpage to find over 250 ways to support your child’s learning:
· About Us
· Fronteras Parents Info. and Links
· Learning Support
Please don’t rely just on those supports however, as we know parents understand the best ways to provide enriching learning experiences for their children. Numerous Spanish supports are also provided.
During the month of November, Fronteras staff have been working in teams to solve mysteries, accomplish various tasks, dance their worst dance, and do covert good deeds for one another. The culminating activity is November 28th, where one team will be identified as the Top Mystery Decoding Bad Dancing Good Deed Doing Crew! Please enjoy the photos below that demonstrate just how seriously our staff takes challenges!
Being sensitive to how busy families are this time of year, especially next week, Wednesday the 22nd will be a day filled with Fall/November academic and artistic activities. Please make contact with your child’s teacher(s) if you are interested in helping with the various activities. We always love having you join us!
MARK YOUR CALENDAR – Wednesday, December 6th, WHOLE SCHOOL field trip to Glenn Massay theater to watch a special production of The Nutcracker. We are closing the school during the field trip, so no staff will be available to supervise students. Like with all field trips and events, it is a choice to attend. For families who choose not to have their student(s) attend, please pick your child(ren) up at Fronteras by 9:45am. You are welcome to bring your student(s) back to Fronteras upon our return, at approximately 1:20pm to finish the school day. Thank you to Fronteras parent, Mrs. Atkinson, for offering this awesome opportunity to us! Students attending will need a cold lunch. We will be visiting with the cast members after the production and eating lunch at the theater.
We wish you a fantastic weekend!
Most Sincerely,
Mrs. Hutchins

Career Technical High School Vet Clinic
Career Technical High School's Veterinary assisting class, along with HOSA (Health Occupation Students of America), will be sponsoring a Microchip & Nail Trim clinic Saturday, November 18th from 10:00am to 3:00pm at CTHS.
This year they have to pay for the microchips, so in return they will need to charge $20/chip. This is still a very good deal, as the vet clinics charge $50-$60. Nail trims will be $7.00.
There will be a drawing for one weekend of pet boarding at Ponderosa Pet Suites good for one dog or one cat!
Thank you for supporting our future vetrinarians!
