Character Trait of the Month
Our Character Strong trait for October is RESPONSIBILITY. Check out what each grade level is working on!
A Message from the Principal
Hello Hoover Families,
Our last night of fall conferences is Tuesday, October 10th, from 4:30-8:30. It will also be our last night of the Book Fair. Thank you to the families who attended conferences, met with our staff, and visited the Book Fair! Families can also order books online at this link. Seeing students and families in the building during these evenings has been wonderful.
Our Hoover PTO invites you all to attend their Open House/Meet & Greet session on Tuesday, October 10th, from 4:30-6:30 in the Media Classroom. Come learn more about our amazing PTO, how their work supports our students, staff, and families, AND what you can do to help! They would love to have you check out what a PTO meeting looks and sounds like by staying for the monthly PTO meeting from 6:30-7:30. Childcare is provided during the PTO meeting, too!
Our PTO is also hosting its annual Costume Dance on Friday, October 13th, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Students and families are welcome to come in costume or not; it's up to you! There will be a-rockin' DJ to groove to the music with. Students MUST be accompanied by an adult. Please do not drop students off unattended for their own safety. We appreciate your support with this!
Please continue to share with others about our open positions. No previous experience is necessary to become a SpEd paraeducator. We have an amazing team who will support and train you. We would love for you or someone you know to join our Hoover team!
Best,
Mrs. Strusz

October 9th is Indigenous Peoples' Day
Today is Indigenous Peoples' Day. It is a day that we support and honor Native American communities and acknowledge that they were here before many of our families. It is a time to celebrate and learn from Indigenous cultures and people. There are over 570 Native Nations in the US. Each Native Nation has their own language and culture, not all Native Americans are the same.
Minnesota is the homeland of the Dakota People, and our state name comes from a Dakota word Mnisota referring to clearwater. Dakota referred to this place as Mnisota Makoce- land of sky tinted water. Anishinaabe people also live in MN, and some of our place names come from Ojibwe language too. For example, the Mississippi River’s name comes from gichi-ziibii meaning Big River. Today, we will learn about Ojibwe and Dakota people, and how we can see their language and culture reflected in this place we call home.

Get To Know Our Hoover Staff
"It takes a village to raise a child."
Thank you for being a part of ours, as we hope that you know, we are a part of yours. Our dedicated Hoover staff show up every day, rain or shine, to ensure that every student who walks into Hoover feels welcomed, loved, and supported. And that every day is new, no matter how the previous day went.
This AMAZING Hoover community not only gives their all to our students but also gives their all to their own families. We hope you take some time to look through these slides to get to know who we are and what our interests and passions are. These interests and passions are often why we choose to have a career in education.
Seesaw Family/Teacher Communication
Anoka Hennepin School District encourages family/teacher communication through the use of the Seesaw platform. Many families signed up at Open House this year. During fall conferences, our teachers will help families who have not signed up and set this up on their phone/tech devices yet. Please make sure to do this!
Every Meal Program Available
Every Meal is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a mission to fight child hunger through community and school partnerships. Every Meal supports families with programming over the weekends, extended school breaks, and summer. This program is entirely voluntary and families can choose to sign up or stop receiving meals at any time of the year. More info can be found at https://www.everymeal.org/.
Every Meal brochures were sent home with students in early September, and distribution of the meals started the third week of September. Meals will be placed in backpacks for students/families who signed up, every week on the last school day of the week. If you would like to sign up your student for this program, please reach out to Brianna Havelka, school social worker, at Brianna.Havelka@ahschools.us.
Message from the Nurse's Office
Please send an extra pair of pants and underwear for your child in case there is an accident (bathroom, breakfast/lunch spill, etc.). The health office loves donations of gently used sweatpants and leggings sizes 5-10. We also appreciate new packs of underwear for boys and girls sizes 5-10.
The health office has free at home Covid tests. Email Darlene.Anderson@ahschools.us and we can send them home with your child.
Wondering if your child is well enough to come to school? Click here for more information.
If your child goes to the doctor or dentist, please request a doctor's note and send it with your child for attendance purposes.
