Truckee Elementary CUB NEWS 2/5/2024
From the Principals Desk-
Hello Truckee El Families!
Big snow is expected this weekend, so stay tuned for information about possible snow days early next week.
Thank you to everyone who reached out about how our injured staff member is doing. I have been given permission to share that she has no broken bones, but is very sore and is still recovering at home. We feel fortunate that this wasn't worse.
I also want to thank everyone who reached out about their safety concerns for pickup and dropoff. We are reissuing our safety guidance to all families (see the note below) and are including it in a Friday phone call. Safety is everyone's concern and responsibility. This is one area where we can come together as a school community and make our campus safer for everyone. Please read through our safety guidelines and continue to share with Sarah and me your safety concerns/suggestions for improvement when they come up.
Our lost and found has been organized by category. We would love for students and parents to peruse our lost and found for students to claim any lost items. If you are missing any jackets or lunchboxes or any other article of clothing parents can feel free to sign in and check the lost and found. Items will be donated if they are left here before Ski Week.
Have a great weekend!
Ryan Galles, Principal
Safety During Dropoffs and Pickups
We want to send a reminder on safety for our drop off and pick up procedures. Please remember that when you’re dropping off your student in the morning or picking up in the afternoon to give yourself the extra time (especially in weather) that you might need to drop off or pick up your student safely. From the time you begin drop off at our line to the time you pull around it’s no more than 10 minutes. From the time you enter the line in the afternoon until you pull out of TES’s loop it’s no more than 10 minutes. Remember that we all want students, staff, and parents to have a safe and positive experience, if you need to give yourself the extra 10 minutes.
The drop off procedures in the morning are as follows:
Follow the directions of the pink vests adults.
Pull as far forward as possible in the lane
Do not double park to let your child out of the car
Do not get out of your car–have your child on the right hand side of the car so they can exit on to the sidewalk and not on to the street side
If for some reason you need to get out of your car, pull up as far to the second set of gates as you can
Follow all normal traffic rules and laws
5 MPH in the drop off/pick up zone
Do not use the right hand turn lane from Northwoods to cut off the line
Remember to look out for pedestrians
Do not be on your cellphone or texting during drop off or pick up
A smile and a wave go a long way. Both to your pink vesters as well as to the drivers and students around you. We’re all role models for how we want our students to show up. Please help us to keep your students and our staff and parents as safe as possible.

Calling All Parents- Original Art!
Let’s make some memories!
Truckee Elementary is holding a Spring fundraiser. The PTO and teachers will be working with all of your kids to create One-of-a-Kind artwork that will be made available in many forms of keepsakes that can be enjoyed for years to come.
Want something for Mother’s Day? Father’s Day? Memorabilia to celebrate for years to come? This is a great opportunity. And, the earned profits will go to Truckee Elementary PTO. WIN-WIN!
Our kids and their teachers will work together to get the artwork completed and submitted to the order website. Student submissions will be completed by February 29th. Once submitted and the gallery is setup, the website will open up for ordering items near the end of March. We will let everyone know the opening date and closing dates in future Cub News editions.
Watch in the coming weeks for updates and order information in the Truckee El Cub News from Principal Galles
Let’s celebrate our TES 2023/24 students!
TES Parent Survey
Dear Parents,
We have extended our Parent Survey to get more respondents. Please take the time to fill out this survey. We’re working to collect feedback on how to support our students and better involve parents here at Truckee Elementary. TES Parent Survey. Our goal is to have 100% parent participation in this survey so we get an accurate picture of how best to support. This survey will close February 9th.
TTUSD LCAP Feedback
Dear TTUSD Community,
We are seeking your feedback on the district’s performance! Your feedback will be incorporated into our annual update to complete the 2023-2024 Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP). The LCAP is a state/county three-year plan which outlines goals, actions, services, and expenditures to drive positive student results. This is the third and final year of the current LCAP. We will use your feedback to update TTUSD LCAP goals and action plans to align with our newly adopted District Strategic Plan and will bring a proposed 2024-2027 LCAP to the board in June 2024.
You can view the current approved TTUSD LCAP on our website as a reference. One method of gathering input to drive the upcoming LCAP is through this anonymous TTUSD-specific survey developed by Hanover Research. It allows you to help the district’s continuous improvement process by providing feedback regarding your and your child’s experiences in TTUSD. The survey, which can be taken in English or Spanish, covers a broad range of topics and will take 10 - 15 minutes to complete. Please note the survey closes on February 9, 2024. Thanks in advance for your contributions!

Information Regarding School Illness
We are entering the cold and flu season and in an effort to keep everyone healthy at school please remember to keep your student(s) home if they are sick. We recommend that your child stay home from school if experiencing illness symptoms. To decide whether or not to send your child to school, please consider the following guidelines.
Definitely keep your child at home for treatment and observation if he/she/they has any of these symptoms:
Fever greater than 100ºF. Your child needs to stay home until they are fever-free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication.
Vomiting: Your student may return to school once they’ve been 24 hours without vomiting
Cough and Cold Symptoms: Please keep your student home if they have worsening cough and cold symptoms.
To help prevent the flu and illness, teach your child good hygiene habits:
Wash hands, frequently, for 20 seconds with soap and water
Do not touch the eyes, nose, or mouth (the T-zone)
Cover mouth and nose when sneezing or coughing. Use a paper tissue, throw it away and then wash hands
Avoid close contact with people who are sick. Keeping a sick child at home will help minimize the spread of infections and viruses in the classroom.
Remember to get your flu vaccine!
