Letter from Mrs. Anderson
Greetings Bobcat Families!
Fall is in the air, and we are soaring to new heights this month. We are looking forward to celebrating being drug free with Red Ribbon Week at the end of October! Please check out our theme days for students as we celebrate being drug-free!
Congratulations to the following teachers: Mrs. Drozdowski, Mrs. Quintana, Ms. Sam, Ms. Simon, Mrs. Velez, Mrs. Alviar, and Mr. Segura. 7 Eden Park teachers were awarded a variety of classroom grants for use with their students. We are so proud of our teachers and the opportunities they are creating in the classroom for our kids!
On Thursday, October 12th, we had the opportunity to celebrate our Bobcats of the Month at our Bobcat Brilliancy Award Ceremony. Bobcats of the Month from August and September were celebrated in front of their families and our select staff/administrative team. Thank you to all of the families that came out to support their child as we celebrated citizenship and responsibility.
As always, our Bobcat Bulletin is packed with important information, thank you for taking the time to read.
In partnership,
Mrs. Anderson

Counselor's Corner
Hello Bobcat Families,
Can you believe we are already halfway through October? It has been such a pleasure working with your children so far this year. We have such amazing students and families!
October is an important month for drug awareness. October 23rd-27th we will be celebrating making drug-free choices. See attached flyer for specific dress-up days information. Thank you for joining us in guiding our students to be drug-free!
In working with our students, I find that they sometimes experience big feelings such as anger, stress, or sadness. Here are some strategies that you can use at home to help them deal with these big feelings (see picture below for more strategies):
1) Take a Deep Breath: Sometimes, the simplest way to calm down is to take a long, deep breath.
2) Take a Drink of Water: Did you know that stopping to take a drink of water calms our brains down and helps us think more clearly?
3) Talk with Someone You Trust: Help your children know they can come to you with any problems. Give them extra time each day to talk about anything they want. An example would be to ask them to share one positive and one negative thing that happened during the day.
4) Provide a Journal to Write/Draw: This is one of my favorite tools. If children are upset, giving them 5-10 minutes to draw will often calm them down enough to discuss the problem.
5) Remember All Feelings Are Ok: Children sometimes feel that they should not show their true feelings. Encourage them to share how they are really feeling. If they are angry or upset about something, calmly ask them to explain why. By letting them know that all feelings are ok, they will feel safer in explaining the problem.
We have such wonderful students at Eden Park Elementary. I feel honored to be able to support them every day!
Sincerely,
Kimberly Combes

Habit 3: Put First Things First
Putting first things first means spending time on what's most important. Focus on your highest priorities and activities that represent your mission, roles, values, and high-priority goals.
One way to ensure high-priority tasks (Big Rocks) get done is to have a weekly plan.
