PROMOTION REMINDERS:
Students who are not meeting promotion criteria and did not participate in our Academic Assistance Program, may have to attend Summer School. Invites have been sent via email.
Please contact your grade level Assistant Principal if you have any questions either about promotion or summer school:
6th Grade: Dr. Tookes- cynthia.tookes@gcpsk12.org
7th Grade: Ms. Booth- kim.booth@gcpsk12.org
8th Grade: Ms. Larkin- jamie.larkin@gcpsk12.org
8TH GRADE PARENTS:
As your 8th grade teachers have shared this year, Carnegie units of credit may be awarded to 8th grade students for approved high school level courses. 8th graders taking Physical Science, Algebra, Accelerated Algebra, Spanish at Coleman MS have this option.
Parents are required to sign the Carnegie Unit Credit Decision at the end of the school year
indicating whether the credit earned in math for the course(s) taken will be for middle school credit or as a Carnegie unit towards high school graduation. All other courses will receive Carnegie credit unless otherwise specified by the parent on the form. Courses that earn a high school Carnegie credit in middle school will not be used in the grade point average (GPA) calculation for high school. They are reported with a P, instead of a numerical grade.
Use this LINK to access the directions to accept Carnegie credit for high school courses on Parent Vue and please contact our 8th grade administrator, Ms. Larkin, at jamie.larkin@gcpsk12.org if you have any questions.

PROJECT PIPELINE ARCHITECTURE CAMP INFORMATION:
Project Pipeline Architecture Camp, a national program established by the National Organization of Minority Architects (NOMA), introduces middle to high school students to a talented group of architecture and design professionals. The students have the opportunity to learn, collaborate, and develop design solutions to community-focused issues throughout a three-day hands-on activity that builds creativity and design innovation. Pipeline students are asked to think creatively about the spaces around them and are given the opportunity to investigate how they can best influence those spaces. Each day consists of various hands-on activities and learning sessions designed to encourage students to synthesize and interpret new information as they design a new building for their city to engage with. By the end of camp, Pipeline students have created the building that would fit within their city blocks for a better city and designed a community that reflects their academic, cultural, and design interests!
Registration Includes: all program supplies, as well as light breakfast, lunch, and snacks.
As we are heading into summer 2023, we wanted to reach out to the prospective Project Pipeline Campers and extend a personal invitation to attend this year's summer camp. This year’s Project Pipeline will be hosted by NOMATLANTA in-person!

FROM OUR BUSINESS PARTNERS
GENERAL REMINDERS:
IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING UNSUPERVISED STUDENTS DURING AFTER SCHOOL EVENTS:
Dear Parents,
We have had a few incidents during some of our after school events at Coleman MS and Duluth High School and we want to make sure our performing students and families enjoy these opportunities to showcase and enjoy the result of long hours of learning and practice. We expect students to be accompanied and supervised by a parent during after school events, with the exception of their grade level socials.
Moving forward, unsupervised students won't be allowed to remain at the event. The student will be escorted out of the event, parents will be called for pick up, and any ticket money will be reimbursed.
As a general reminder, district and school code of conduct applies during any school- sponsored event, regardless of location and time, and students not meeting school expectations may receive consequences.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
Thank you,
Dr. Hernandez
Your Principal
Grab-and-Go breakfast:
- In order to maximize our students' opportunity to participate in Morning Meetings and CATS time in the mornings, we will start accommodating grab-and-go breakfast after spring break for students riding late buses. The grab-and-go breakfast will include cereal, fruits, and other choices of dry breakfast items included on the weekly menu, that students can eat in their homeroom
- beverages are not allowed in classroom, so avoid dropping them students late with an open drink as this will further affect their start time.
Arrival and Dismissal Reminders:
For question, concerns, and dispatch services about buses, call transportation: 770-513-6686.
- Parents please be advised that during morning drop off and dismissal, Coleman Middle School will provide student supervision while students are on school property only.
- No students should be dropped off and/or picked up on any of the immediate streets surrounding Coleman.
- Riding with parents or the bus ensures a safe and secure arrival and dismissal for students at Coleman Middle each day.
- We do not provide supervision once students are off campus.
