A Time to Give Thanks
November 2023
A Note of Thanks
Buccaneer Families,
As we embark upon the upcoming holiday season, we would like to take a moment to say how thankful we are to serve our students among our incredible community. We are grateful for your continued support and want to thank you for sharing and entrusting your children with us. Thank you for allowing your children to bring JOY into our district learning community each and every day.
We realize the holiday season can be a busy time and sometimes overwhelming. Please remember the importance of routine and regular school attendance. Also, please be certain to regularly visit our MSD Calendar for the latest updates regarding event offerings. We have many opportunities planned to showcase our students and their work with all of you. Please come join us!
Thank you for continuing to be a part of our district and for all you do to help Milford School District continue to chart the course to excellence.

Delays
Delays for Inclement Weather Process
Fog and ice delays are common during the Fall and Winter months. Our process for delays start around 4:00 am. We use state and local weather forecasts as well as local radar and temperature readings. A determination is made by comparing our conditions with what neighboring districts are seeing as well. We try to have a decision made and communicated by 5:15 am. Once a decision is made, we send an automated call out to notify families. Please make sure your contact information is accurate.
Delayed openings due to inclement weather will be ninety (90) minutes. Students and staff will report 90 minutes later than their normal start time.
Academic Excellence
Milford strives to appropriately challenge each student by providing rigorous instructional materials and high-quality instructional strategies. This combination supports our efforts to ensure equitable access to academic excellence in every school.

Empowering and Investing in our People
Milford School District Teacher of the Year, Ms. Vicki Hudson, was recognized during the State of Delaware Teacher of the Year Banquet in October.
"Being a compassionate listener, identifying students' needs, and combining art with academics helped Hudson earn Banneker Teacher of the Year for the third time".
Supporting the Whole Student
Congratulations to our New 2023-2024 Safety Patrol Members from Banneker, Lulu Ross, and Mispillion Elementary Schools.
Safety Patrollers are not just leaders in our school but also role models for their fellow classmates. They embody the portrait of a buccaneer with their responsibility, empathy, work ethic and community service. With these qualities, they contribute to a safe and supportive environment where every student can thrive.
Building our Future
MHS welcomed Mrs. Bluhm and Mr. Puddicombe from the City of Milford to be "Principal for a Day" and Morris welcomed Senator Carper!
Building a strong talent pipeline today is imperative to the workforce of tomorrow. The Delaware Principal for a Day program began in 1993 with the goal to create a stronger connection between educators and the business community. With over 80 high schools in Delaware, there is a tremendous need for employers to partner with schools to provide career exploration opportunities from both inside and outside the classroom.
