Disney Elementary was very excited to honor our Veterans with our Veterans Day breakfast! Thank you to Mrs. Filip for organizing a great morning and creating our Wall of Honor. And thank you to Ms. Browe, Mrs. Engle, and Miss Capoferri for decorating the gym. It was so wonderful to see our students beaming with pride as they enjoyed a donut breakfast with their special Veteran.

To all those who have served and those who continue to serve, thank you for your bravery, sacrifice, and service. Happy Veterans Day!

Our Walt Disney students and families collected a whopping 1,870 canned goods and items for the Clinton Valley Kiwanis Thanksgiving Food Drive! WOW! With the help and guidance of our amazing Stu-Co Reps, we were able to collect, count, and pack up all of the meal items for families in need.

It was a close, last minute effort competition! We will be announcing the pizza party winner on Monday afternoon!

The can food drive was a huge success thanks to our amazing student council members and our Disney families. Many thanks to all for your generous support!

During the month of November, Disney teachers and students are reflecting on what we are grateful for. We would love to hear from our valued families and community what and who you are grateful for at Walt Disney Elementary School.

November 13 is World Kindness Day!

This is a day to promote the importance of being kind to each other, yourself and to the world! Its purpose is to reinforce that it is compassion that links us all together and has immense power of bridging gaps. It's a great reminder to spread positivity, kindness, and happiness to those we interact with.

Time outdoors is time well spent for kids, in all seasons. We're starting to see MANY students bundled up each day, which is great! Please be sure to send your child to school dressed for the weather each day. Students will start needing warm coats, gloves, hats, scarves, and/or boots daily throughout the winter.

Please note that, per Board Policy, we will be having outdoor morning lineup and heading outdoors for our 20 minute recess(es) if the windchill is 10+ degrees.

Please take time to label each and every item- because our lost and found gets bombarded with lost winter accessories throughout the season. If items are labeled we will do our best to return them to students.

Disney is once again having our annual Winter Concert for all 4th, 5th, and 6th graders! Please mark down that our concert will be on Tuesday, November 28th at 7:00 PM in the FHS Auditorium. Festive and holiday formal dress is encouraged! You can never be too overdressed for a concert. Please be on the lookout for more notes home regarding special parts, permission slips, and last minute reminders. Hope to see you all at the end of November!

We want to be sure that our own families in need have access to items collected from our upcoming Canned Food Drive and Giving Tree Drive, along with other items that are often donated by community organizations.

If your family is experiencing any type of hardship this winter and could benefit from being a recipient of items collected, please complete this form to let us know and we'll reach out to you if any items are available.

The Fraser Goodfellows are once again providing holiday assistance for those in need. Assistance is available to Fraser Residents OR students attending Fraser Public Schools. Please see the flyer linked below for additional information, registration dates & location.

In Fraser - and across the state and country - the rates of student absences have increased during the last several years. Missing just two days of school a month adds up to more than 10% of the school year. Those lost learning opportunities can impact students throughout their school careers.

Some of these strategies may serve as a good reminders to help ensure strong school attendance:

• Talk to your child about how going to school every day will help them do well in school and achieve their hopes and dreams.

• Set goals for positive attendance (i.e. no tardies/absences this month)

• Reward/acknowledge students' positive attendance habits.

• Make sure students get to bed early and awake early enough to get to school on time.

• Set up medical and dental appointments for weekdays after school, Early Release/Half Day afternoons, or weekends- if possible.

• For children with a slight stomachache, headache or allergies, who don't have a contagious illness including Covid-19, plan to send them to school. Call a health provider for advice for children who complain regularly.

• For children who cannot avoid missing school, check Canvas for learning resources. Also, be sure to call our attendance line at: 586-439-6490

We all know that the Disney parking lot is challenging at times, especially during the colder months. We understand that our dismissal can be stressful and intense with the high volume of car pickup students. From time to time it is important to review our procedures. If we all follow our parking lot procedures and practice patience, we will be able to quickly exit everyone safely. Below are a few important reminders:

• Please refrain from parking anywhere other than designated parking spaces, this includes, parking in handicapped parking spots unless your handicap parking pass is properly displayed.
• Please do not pull through the parking spaces to exit. Those parking should back out of parking spaces and utilize the thru traffic line to exit the parking lot.
• Please turn right on Kelly when exiting the parking lot for safety and to help assist with traffic flow.

• The driveway in the front of the school is for bus parking, emergency vehicles, and exiting traffic only. Please do not park or drop-off/pick-up students in the bus loop. Families may not park on Kelly and walk through the bus driveway at dismissal.
• Smoking and pets are not permitted on school grounds. Please leave your pets at home for the safety and comfort of all of our students and families.

Elementary students will have the option to purchase snack/a la carte items in addition to their free reimbursable lunch. After lunch service, students will have a selection of items to choose from and pay using CASH ONLY. Milk is also available for purchase using cash if your child brings a lunch from home. Student meal accounts will be used strictly for breakfast and lunch meals, not a la carte purchases.

As a caretaker of a Walt Disney Elementary student, you are a valued member of the Team Disney Parent Teacher Organization. All PTO meetings will now be both in person AND have a link to join virtually. ALL are welcome to join. If you plan to attend in person it is adults only.
