The Academy for Science and Health Professions at CHS
From the Headmaster...
The year is almost half way over! Our students have worked so hard this year, especially considering the effects of the last year and a half. I'm so proud of them, and I've enjoyed getting to know them this semester.
I know that everyone is looking forward to some rest and relaxation over the upcoming holidays. However your family spends Thanksgiving, I hope your student enjoys some well-deserved time off.

We still need students to create virtual read-alouds for our elementary schools!
Here's how it works:
- Feeder librarians are sending picture and chapter books to the Academy office.
- ASHP students will "check out a book" from the Academy office and pick up instructions for creating the audio/video book.
- ASHP students will record themselves reading chapter books to create an audio version.
- ASHP students will create a PowerPoint of the scanned pages of the picture books, and then record themselves reading the book aloud on zoom with the pictures as the virtual background to create a video read-aloud!
- These recordings will be uploaded to a google drive.
- A QR code will be created and attached to the book when it's returned to the elementary library.
Elementary students will then be able to check out books from their library and have an Academy student READ the book to/along with them!
We know that reading is fundamental to success, and are committed to promoting reading as we give back to our community!
See Mr. Kelly for details!
PSAT/SAT - Looking forward
Juniors - You should connect your new scores to your Khan Academy account and develop a plan to practice for the SAT in the Spring. When we return from Winter Break, Juniors will be able to register for the SAT to take during the school day in March. The first administration of the SAT will be FREE for Juniors!
Sophomores - You should connect your new scores to your Khan Academy account and develop a plan to practice for the PSAT next October. That will be the test that enters you into competition for National Merit Scholar status, and LOTS OF SCHOLARSHIPS!
Freshmen - You should connect your first, real PSAT scores to your Khan Academy account and develop a long-term plan to practice for the PSAT next October. You want to see progress from your 9th grade to your 10th grade years so you have the best chance at the highest score your Junior year!!!!
