Principal's Message
Dear West TV Families,
Tomorrow is the All Star Dash and the weather couldn't be better! The All Star Dash is our one and only school fundraiser which helps to fund field trips, class parties, and student enrichment programs, such as Art Literacy, All Star Reading Club, Battle of the Books, Theater Club and Continent Club. Watch the video below for more information and be sure to check inside your child's backpack for a pledge packet. Pledge packets are due October 20th!
New Staff
We have a newly hired additional part-time teacher for ESL (English as a Second Language) that will work in the afternoons each day and started work at West TV today. Her name is Erin Landeros. She is an experienced ESL teacher that also works part-time at Beaver Acres.

Save the Date: The Book Fair is Coming...
More details coming soon in the Monday Minute newsletter!
All Star Dash
This is it! We’re counting down the days until the All Star Dash is here. The Dash is taking place this Friday at the Catlin Gabel track.
Students will receive an All Star Dash short sleeve T-shirt on Friday morning. At the race, they will receive individually packaged allergy friendly foods: Skinny Pop original popcorn and Bear fruit rolls with two options: Apple-Pear-Raspberry (all one roll), and Apple-Pear-Strawberry (all one roll). You are welcome to send a snack with your child if you prefer an alternative.
Thank you again WTV community for your incredible support! So far we've reached $27,528. We’ll continue to collect pledges through October 20th. If you have the opportunity to leverage a matching donation with your employer, go for it!
We are looking forward to a day of fun, community, activity and fresh air!
A few reminders:
Volunteers, parents and supporters: Please do not head directly to the track. Only registered volunteers with a background check who have checked in at the front office and are badged may be on WTV campus and access the Catlin Gabel track for the Dash event. Beaverton schools and Catlin Gabel have closed campus policies during school hours, with the exception of registered volunteers.
Arrive 20 minutes early, and then head to the Catlin Gabel track. Give your name at the secretary window and receive a volunteer sticker. Your name will be checked and highlighted on a print out of all eligible MIP volunteers. Wear the sticker the whole time you’re at WTV and Catlin Gabel.
Dash times: Grades 4 & 5 = 8:30-9:15 AM, Grades 2 & 3 = 9:30-10:15 AM, Grades K & 1 = 12:25-1:10 PM
Please send students to school with a water bottle and an extra snack (they will be offered snacks after the Dash).
Wear comfortable clothes and good footwear.
Outstanding Effort and Sportsmanship during the Dash are two non-lap or pledge related awards that will be determined on the race day, and awarded at a future assembly. Principal Valentine and PE Teacher, Ms. Cereda will be on the lookout for exemplary dashers for these awards.

All Star Reading Club
The All Star Reading Club has started! Students can join at anytime during the school year.
The All Star Reading Club is West TV’s voluntary incentive program to encourage our students to read books from a variety of genres. Starting in October, students will learn from our wonderful Library Media Assistant, Ms. Sanderson, about different genres of books. If they would like to participate, they can grab a book that fits the monthly genre. Once they read it, they need to fill out a report (available in the library and on the PTC website) and write a summary of the book. Kindergarten is only required to draw a picture, and the subsequent grades write one sentence for the grade they are in (e.g., 4th graders write four sentences about the book). Completed reports are returned to the library.
Reports may be turned in through the end of the following month (e.g., April's Poetry and Humor form can be turned in through May 31st). If a student misses a month, they can complete a report on a classic book as a makeup, but only one time.
Every week your All Star Reading Club chairs will take the reports home and ensure they are complete. Students can review their progress on the All Star Reading Club bulletin board in the library. For an outstanding report, students may even get to pick a prize from our All Star Reading Club treasure chest!
Students who complete five reports will be invited to our end of year All Star Reading Club party where they will receive a free book, enjoy treats, and listen to a storyteller! Students who submit reports for all eight genres will receive an extra bonus: a gift card to a bookstore!
This is a terrific way for students to explore all genres of literature and, perhaps, enjoy books they never thought they’d be interested in. Here are the genres for each month:
- October – Mystery & Scary Stories
- November – Historical Fiction
- December – Realistic Fiction & Sports Fiction
- January – Action & Adventure
- February – Biographies & Autobiographies
- March – Fantasy & Science Fiction
- April– Poetry & Humor
- May – Animals (Nonfiction) and Animal Stories
- Makeup – any month Classics
If you have any questions, reach out to us at allstarreadingclub@wtvptc.org.
Happy reading!
