HHS Girls Soccer Soars into State Semi-Finals
The Hockinson High School Girls Soccer Team has shown grit, teamwork, and nerves of steel this season and post-season. The girls survived a dramatic shootout with Sehome in the first round of the state tournament and defeated Burlington-Edison 1-0 to earn a rematch against Ridgefield tonight at 6 pm in the state soccer semi-finals. They are also upholding a winning tradition. The Girls were 2nd in District in 2017, District Champs in 2018, 2nd in State in 2019, and undefeated in 2020-21.

Old Sign Post Returns with A New Look, Location
The HSD teamed up with the Hockinson Main Street Team and other volunteers to give a local landmark a new look and a new home at the Hockinson Community Center. Read the story here.
Thanksgiving Break: Food, Family, Friends...and Books
The upcoming Thanksgiving holiday is an opportunity to gather, eat, and rest. It is also an opportunity for our students to do some recreational reading! Literacy skills are not just important in Language Arts, they are critical to student success in all content areas. HSD students can check out multiple books from our libraries prior to the break. Our friendly and helpful media techs, Ms. Clover (HHES), Ms. von Kreisler (HMS), and Ms. Krussow (HHS) are ready to assist our students with selecting books that fit their interests.
Inside the Classroom: HHS School Board Visit
Members of the HSD School Board visit schools throughout the year to get an insider’s view of school culture, observe classrooms, and check in with staff and building leaders. On Monday, HHS Principal Tim Fox and Associate Principal Kathy Pacheco gave School Board Director Gordon Smith and Superintendent Steve Marshall a tour of the campus as they walked through four classrooms:
- Beginning Acting - Learning Focus: Improvisation
- Spanish 2 - Learning Focus: Written retell of a Spanish story using appropriate verb tenses
- Personal Fitness - Learning Focus: Movement and teamwork playing “Bucketball”
- Wood Tech & Art - Learning Focus: Safe and effective tool use to create items for this Saturday’s Holiday Bazaar
Conversations revolved around the HSD Strategic Plan and ERA instructional philosophy, in particular “Engagement” which we tried to capture in pictures.
HSD Set to Start New Test to Stay Program
Information was sent out via email earlier this week, but we want to make sure HSD families are aware of our new Test to Stay program for Hockinson students. As indicated by its name, the goal of Test to Stay is to eliminate or minimize the loss of classroom learning for students who are exposed to a positive Covid-19 case while at school. More details on this program can be found here.
Also, don’t forget about our free COVID testing service, which has administered over 400 tests in the past month. Testing has enabled us to confirm a small number of positive cases and give peace of mind to a large number of staff, students, and parents. The testing center is located at 17912 NE 159th St. Hours of operation: 6:45-9:00 am and 4-6:00 pm Mon-Thu and 6:45-9:00 am on Fridays. (Learn more @ HSD web article).
FirstView Bus App Now Available to HSD Parents
FirstView is a bus tracking and parent communication app and platform offered by the HSD’s transportation provider, First Student. FirstView enables parents to check on the status of their child’s bus (e.g., pick up and arrival times) and receive alerts and district messages on their mobile phone or desktop computer. This app can be downloaded now from the Apple App Store or Google Play. Heads up: To activate the app, parents will need to first contact their child’s school for a security code.
Festive Lights to Brighten Hockinson Streets, Holidays
The Hockinson Main Street Team (HMST) will flip the switch on its second Hockinson Hometown Lights on Thanksgiving Day and the lights will remain on until 2022. The HMST hopes that these lights welcome holiday visitors and raise spirits by brightening the dark nights of winter.
This event is 100% volunteer-driven and all lights have been donated by Hockinson families. A donation will also cover the cost of electricity needed to illuminate the lights that will be displayed on HSD property. So, a big “Thank You” to everyone involved. Click here if you would like to donate to the Hockinson Hometown Lights tradition!
