Week of Jan. 24th
Message from Principal Drew...
Tomorrow will be a remote learning day for all students. All learning will take place asynchronously. This means that students should log into their Canvas page and complete work posted by their teacher for each class period. Students will have the opportunity for live question and answer sessions for each class at the following designated times: 1st Period from 9:00 to 9:30, 2nd Period from 9:30 to 10:00, 3rd Period from 1:00 to 1:30, and 4th Period from 1:30 to 2:00. Teachers may have times in addition to these sessions but all staff should be available to students at these designated times throughout the day.
This week will be another busy week at PCHS.
On Tuesday our basketball teams play at Washington County.
On Wednesday our Varsity Boys basketball team will play at Tarboro and our Swim team will be in action at the beach.
On Friday we will host NECP in Varsity Boys basketball only starting at 6:00 PM. The Snow Ball scheduled for this Friday has been postponed until February 11th due to the high level of Covid infections at this time.
Parents we have two opportunities for you this week as well.
The first is a chance for parents of AIG students to have input into our new AIG plan. If you have not yet completed the parent survey please use the link found on our Facebook page to do so by no later than this Thursday, January 27th. The link to follow is: https://forms.gle/sE1KkrauspJzgDQW7
Also on Thursday our Exceptional Children's Department will host a parent webinar from 7 to 8 PM. This webinar will focus on how parent's can support good student emotional health. The link to join this webinar is also located on our Facebook page.
Finally a huge congratulations to the following essay winners for the Fleet Reserve Essay Contest: 9th grade winners include Lilly Winslow, Taylor Honza, and Anthony Winslow. 10th grade winner was Justin Richardson, and 12th grade winners were DJ Levesque and Emily Bundy. Congrats to all of our winners!

Health Sciences> Will be hosting a blood drive on February 11th in the gym lobby (see below).
Girls Soccer> PQ 2022 Women's Soccer conditioning and workouts are scheduled to begin Monday, January 24 @ 3:30 in Mrs. Tripp's room. Tryout dates to be announced at a later date. Please see Mrs. Tripp for more information or if interested in playing.
FFA> Will be sponsoring a winter semi formal- Winter Wonderland- on January 28. Tickets will go on sale Nov. 29 for juniors and seniors during all lunches and then they will be available to students in all grades starting Dec. 7. Tickets will be $15 per person and numbers will be limited so be sure to get yours early. If you have any questions please see Mrs. Russell or Mrs. Perry.
Theatre Department> Auditions for "Shrek The Musical" will take place on February 3rd so, mark your calendars!
You will need to prepare a 1-minute monologue and 16 Bars (30-45 seconds) of music.
You also need to dress comfortably for the dance portion.
If you only want to dance you do not need to prepare anything.

Newsletter/Email Home to Senior Parents> Last chance to purchase a Senior Recognition Ad is February 10. Senior Recognition Ads can be purchased at www.jostensyearbooks.com. On the website parents have the complete freedom in uploading a picture(s) and creating a personal message. This is where parents can submit a baby picture or other favorite shot – many parents use this for professional senior portraits taken on location. It is a time to congratulate your graduate or tell them how proud you are.

There is still time to complete your FAFSA. If you plan to attend any post-secondary education, complete your FAFSA as soon as possible. Stop by Miss Gray's office located in guidance or email her at morgangray@pqschools.org to set up an appointment.
All Perquimans County Schools Foundation Scholarships are due February 1, 2022. Please contact Miss Gray or your school counselor for more information regarding these scholarship opportunities.
Seniors, we have two large scholarship opportunities available now.
SECU Scholarship
Due: March 1, 2022
All eligible high school seniors must meet the following requirements:
Must be a senior at a North Carolina public high school
Must be an SECU member or is eligible for membership through a parent/guardian.
Must be a United States citizen, a resident of North Carolina, and eligible for in-state tuition.
Must be accepted to attend one of the 16 UNC system universities as a full-time undergraduate.
Must have demonstrated scholastic achievement with a 2.5 or higher unweighted GPA on a 4.0 scale.
Must have demonstrated leadership, excellence of character, integrity and community involvement.
Must file FAFSA as part of the application.

Golden Leaf Commitment Scholarship
Due: March 1, 2022
Requirements:
Be a North Carolina resident for tuition purposes and reside in a qualifying rural North Carolina county,
Be a high school senior enrolling full-time in the fall as a first-year student or a currently enrolled community college transfer student enrolling full-time in the fall,
Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5,
Plan to enroll in a participating North Carolina public or private college/university,
Have a financial need as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) process,
Be able to communicate a commitment to returning to a rural North Carolina county after graduation.
