Meet our EDGE Students
Meet Audrey Castle. Audrey is a senior at Boone High School and in the EDGE Internship course. Throughout the semester she has been learning all about real-estate from some local experienced realtors in Boone County with Flynn Real Estate and Emily Greave of Re-max generations.
After high school, she plans to attend Iowa State and study Business and Communications. With this degree, she hopes to work with a real-estate firm after college that will advance her knowledge and help her grow to eventually open her own brokerage.
Besides interning with realtors she has also been very fortunate with other opportunities that have come her way with EDGE such as helping a home stager, and networking with other professionals in the real estate business.
One of those professionals would be the CBRE group at Hubbell Realty. She spent the day with them learning a lot about the commercial real estate industry and got to witness commercial showings of lease spaces and office buildings.
You can see some of the marketing work she has done in the included pictures as well as some of her staging opportunities she's been able to do this year.
Audrey is so excited to see what the future has in store for her and to keep learning all about the real estate business!
Thank you to the partners that continue to make these experiences possible. We couldn't do any of this without your guidance and support!
Megan Sandegren is a senior and has been in EDGE for three semesters. She started her career exploration path in education with a job shadow with Chambray Burk, an English teacher at the high school. Megan learned from observing Mrs. Burk and created a grammar lesson during their time together. The high school English department still uses Megan’s grammar lesson to this day.
To further her interest in education, Megan partnered with the ISU Boone County Extension and Outreach to create a STEM To-Go bag. She worked with Franklin Elementary School teacher, Sally Dighton to create a lesson that followed elementary science standards. She then presented the fossil creation project-in-a-bag to Mrs. Dighton’s third grade class.
Megan also holds an interest in digital media. To pursue this, she joined a team of three to produce a signage board to highlight the flora and fauna of a local city park, Cap Erbe Park. Megan solely designed the signage through a process of learning Adobe Photoshop. She also worked alongside professional designers to print the signage board. Her background in graphic design with Mr. Bravard's class, graphic design set her up to be able to take on her newest EDGE role as an intern.
Megan has most recently gotten hired as a Marketing Intern with Fareway Corporate. For her internship,vMegan inventories product images and uploads them into an online database.
Megan will be attending Northwest Missouri State University in the fall to major in Digital Media with an emphasis in Communication. Megan's path through EDGE is one of our favorites. No matter what she tackled she did it with eagerness and an unbelievable work ethic. There is never anything she does that isn't done well. She is on her way to do incredible things and we're so excited to see where her future leads.
Congrats to Emma Westfall and Logan Shearer on their All State speech nominations!! They will compete at UNI on Monday, March 28th!

The Hooper Scoopers are back for the 2021-2022 DMACC Men's Basketball Season!
Your defending National Champion DMACC Bears would like to invite all 2nd - 8th grade students to sign up for the chance to be a Ball Boy/Girl for the Men's Basketball Team. There will be an opportunity for 4 students to participate at each home game. Each participant will receive a t-shirt to wear during the game that they will get to keep. They will also receive free entry into the game along with 4 passes for family/friends to get into that same game. Please arrive at each game 20 minutes (times on sign up reflect this adjustment) before tip off to receive t-shirt and instructions. We will meet in the upstairs weight-room, above the gymnasium. Finally, a parent/guardian must be present with each participant.

The program matches students in grades K-8th with a trained volunteer mentor once per week during the school day. These weekly meetings provide a positive, caring role model to eat lunch with, play games and simply talk about the student's interests and ideas.
Information and volunteer applications can be found at https://www.yss.org/program/mentoring.To learn how your child can become a participant, contact Tracy at boonementoring@yss.org or Heidi at hchopskie@yss.org.
Free School Breakfast and Lunch for all Students for the 2021-2022 school year
Tasty Toreador Meals - Supply Chain Issues
• This school year, thanks to federal pandemic waivers, all students will be eligible for free meals, regardless of family income.
• School meal programs nationwide are experiencing many of the same supply chain issues that have impacted restaurants and grocery stores throughout the pandemic.
• Our school nutrition team is committed to ensuring students continue to have access to healthy meals each school day.
• Just as families have to make substitutions on grocery lists, schools will have to make some last-minute changes to our regular menus, based on availability.
• We hope parents and students will be patient as we sort through these supply chain issues.
• We may not have the same menu choices that we typically offer our students, but we’ll be sure that all students are nourished and ready to learn.
*Reminder: For students bringing a sack lunch and wanting school milk, there will be a .50 cent charge per carton.

Athletics Registration
Toreador Families,
Our "Online Athletics Registration" is live and active for the 2021-22 School Year (link is below). Please take the time to read through the information, and fill out the forms for your student. All students involved in District-Sponsored Athletics in grades 7-12 will need a completed online athletics registration on file, along with a current physical form (physicals are valid for 13 months after the date of the physical). There is a place within the registration to upload the completed physical form.
Completion of the Registration/Physical is not required for the attendance at any summer camps that may be offered. However, the Athletics Registration and Physical Form must be completed and on file before a student may physically participate in practice this Fall. For High School, this starting date is Monday August 9th. Middle School practices will begin a couple weeks later near the first day of school.
