Dear Families,

Thank you for your partnership and for signing up for Parent/Teacher Conferences next week. Conferences will be held on Wednesday, November 1 and Thursday, November 2. Our teachers look forward to meeting with each of you and sharing the great things our students are doing here at Barry! Should you need/want to meet with Dr. Wheeler or Mrs. Ambrose, please stop by the office that evening. We look forward to seeing all of our families soon!

Also, a big thank you to our PTA and all of the parents who volunteered to help with our fall parties today! What a success!! The students had a great time coming together as a classroom community and buidling those relationships with oneanother.

Mrs. Ambrose

Mrs. Ambrose had an opportunity to sneak into the choir rehearsal early this morning (Friday, October 27th). Students were singing holiday music and sounded AMAZING!! We are so excited to hear them at their upcoming music program in November and to hear them at the Holiday Lighting ceremony!

Our 1st graders won the competition for most candy donated for our Trunk or Treat event. Today they were given their reward of an extra recess with their Pathfinder 1st grade friends. It was such a joy watching their faces as they were reunited with some special friends. Enjoy the pictures from their reward recess!

Across the District we will be honoring our military service members in various ways for Veteran's Day.

Barry Elementary is excited to invite our Veteran's on Friday, November 10th to our Lead Day Assembly! We will have a short reception for students who have a Veteran visiting, immediatly following the assembly. Please sign up if you or a family member are inerested.

We are starting to collect quite a bit of items in our lost and found. Please take a moment to check out this picture to see if your child has left something behind. If you see something and want to contact the office we can get the item to your child to take home. Thank you!

School Messenger is our automated phone calling and text notification system. We use this system to notify parents quickly for sudden changes in schedules due to emergencies, school cancellations, or just important school announcements.

As a reminder, PCR-3 will implement traditional inclement weather days (no school and no virtual learning), until we reach a threshold that would push the school year past Memorial Day. We will make those days up per our academic calendar, and if we go past our planned make up days for inclement weather, we will implement our Inclement Weather Virtual Learning Days.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The Diagnostic Imaging Mobile Mammography will be onsite on Friday, November 10 at the locations listed below. To schedule your mammogram call (913) 344-9989 or text “APPOINTMENT” to (913) 327-3000. Diagnostic Imaging will run the claim through your health insurance company. Attached is the list of accepted insurance plans and networks. Please check your insurance benefits for coverage. To expedite your check-in process, please print, complete, and bring the Medical Records Release form & the Breast Imaging Exam form to your appointment. Be sure to bring your insurance card and the name of your primary care doctor.

SkillsUSA members will again be hosting the Haunted Forest at Basswood Resort this year. The event is Oct 20, 21 27 & 28 from 6-9 p.m. There is the scary part of the forest and also a calmer, quieter section for smaller children and those not interested in the "haunt". The cost is $5 per person.

The book fair is coming up! We are so excited to host the very first Barry Elementary Book Fair. It will take place October 30th-November 2nd. Students will have the opportunity to buy books during their library time, before school from 8:30-8:50, and during both nights of parent/teacher conferences. Here is the link to our official book fair website, where you will find all things book fair. On this website there is a volunteer sign up to help Mrs. Williams and Ms. Begg during the book fair. You also have the option to create your student(s) an eWallet. This is an online account where you can add money for your student so they do not have to deal with cash. In past experiences, this option has worked best. We would love your support to make sure we can have the #BarryBest book fair!

Safety is one of our district’s top priorities, and to help safeguard our school community, our District uses Safe Schools Alert, a tip reporting service by Vector Solutions, that allows students, staff, and parents to submit safety concerns to our administration.

You and your child can easily report tips on bullying, harassment, or any safety issue you're concerned about through this online reporting system. On the homepage of the District website (www.plattecountyschooldistrict.com) and on each school building's homepage there is a Safe Schools quicklink which links to the reporting tool. Every tip Vector Solutions receives about our District is immediately logged in the system and our administration is notified so that they can investigate and take appropriate action. Tips may also be submitted anonymously if you prefer. Together, we can make our District a safer place to learn.

We believe that birthdays are an important time in a child’s life, and Barry students will receive a Birthday Book in celebration of their special day. However, for several reasons including increased food allergies, preservation of the instructional day, and student equality, students are not allowed to bring treats from home or a store or have flowers/balloons or other items delivered to the classroom for birthdays, going-away parties, or other personal events. If a student receives a delivery at school, the student will be notified to come to the office to view the item. Parents will be responsible for transporting the item home. Birthday party invitations may only be distributed if invitations are given to every student in the class.

Parent/Teacher conferences are scheduled for Wednesday, November 1 and Thursday, November 2. We are offering both in-person and virtual options for conferences. This is a very important time for parents to discuss their student's progress with his/her teachers, as research has shown that parental involvement is one of the most important factors in a student's success in school. Please see the schedule below (buildings and teachers will be communicating specifics for reserving time slots).

• Wednesday, November 1, 3:30-7:30pm and Thursday, November 2, 3:30-7:00pm: Platte City Middle School, Platte Purchase Middle School Platte County High School, Northland Career Center
• Wednesday, November 1, 4:30-8:30pm and Thursday, November 2, 4:30-8:00pm: Great Beginnings, Barry Elementary, Compass Elementary, Pathfinder Elementary, Siegrist Elementary

Below is a link to the Sign Up Genius if you wish to eat lunch with your child. Please keep in mind that there will only be 2 slots available per grade level due to space and seating available. If you are coming for lunch, you may bring in outside food for your child but we ask that you not share that food with any students other than your own. We are excited to have our families in for lunch!

If you click the link, then choose Barry and then bookmark it, it should take you to Barry menus each time. If there are changes to the menu for the week, they will be updated here first.

We are excited for our students to start working for our Barry'd Treasures School Store. They will gain valuable real-world experience in the areas of teamwork, responsibility, leadership, and customer service as they learn lifelong skills! All proceeds from the store will directly benefit the students and the school.

Pirates R.O.C.K. (Raising Outstanding Character Kids) is a program designed to surround our families with examples of strong character traits through school experiences, at home, and reinforced in their community. Each month our community focuses on a specific character trait and students are recognized for exhibiting these traits: Self Confidence, Pride, Responsibility, Citizenship, Compassion, Individuality, Self Control, Integrity, Perseverance, Respect, Honesty, and Cooperation.

October's #PiratesROCK trait is RESPONSIBILITY: being accountable for your actions without blame.
