Immersive technology erupts at HHS
Mr. Robitaille and Mrs. Dages partnered with New Territory in Akron to offer training in creating virtual and augmented reality software. HHS students took a field trip to New Territory in October to learn the fundamentals of content creation. They are returning in January to learn more advanced applications. The goal of the training exercises is to teach students how to create custom VR and AR experiences, which can be designed to assist with classroom instruction, social-emotional wellness, and collaborations with area businesses and nonprofits.
The HHS media center has purchased four Oculus Quest VR headsets as well as an Oculus Rift VR system. These systems allow users to fully immerse themselves in a virtual environment where they interact and control aspects of the virtual world. Mr. Robitaille has partnered with Mr. Zustin's sociology class to take students on virtual field trips all over the world. Mr. Robitaille has also partnered with the special education department to provide students with mobility issues the opportunity to simulate experiences all over the world and in outer space.
Mr. Robitaille is very interested in teaming up with other departments to enhance learning with immersive technology. We offer VR experiences in art, travel, astronomy, nature exploration, tai chi, meditation, and historical visits. Please contact Mr. Robitaille if you would like to explore immersive technology options for your department.

Makerspace shares passion with next generation
High School Makerspace students assisted Mr. Robitaille with showing the second graders how to use the machines. Each of the second graders designed a custom button, and they watched HHS Makerspace students press them on the button maker. Students also learned about laser engravers, sublimation printers, 3D printing, and a heat press. Mr. Robitaille gave the class some custom photo magnets and a slate with their class photo.
Second-grade students were wide eyed as they learned about the inventing, creating, and problem solving that happens every day in the Makerspace. There will certainly be some future makers in this bunch!

therapy dogs visit HHS
For the past month, therapy dogs have visited students in the media center and in classrooms. The dogs bring smiles and stress breaks to students. Mr. Robitaille intentionally schedules visits during times of high stress, such as ACT/ SAT testing weeks. Trigger the Great Dane is becoming a bit of a celebrity at HHS, and is loved by the teachers just as much as the students.
Fox 8 is scheduled to visit HHS on Nov. 4 to film a feature story for their news program. Look out for Trigger in the hallways!
