Voice of the Viking
We are off to a fantastic start! Everyone is excited to begin a new school year. Communication is important as we all want the best for each of our leaders! We will communicate with you via a monthly newsletter about school wide events and news you can use. Please make sure you keep the office updated about any changes in your phone numbers, physical address, and/or email. We utilize social media (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram) to show you things about our days. Check us out. Teachers will send home newsletters, conferences, and contact you through SchoolStatus via phone and texts to discuss your child's progress.

Nursing Notes
My name is Bailey McKinney and I will be your School Nurse. I am looking forward to serving you and your child during the 2022-2023 school year. To ensure your child’s health and safety, I would like to share a few things with you:
HEALTH CONCERNS: Please inform the school nurse and your child’s teacher of any severe allergies, medications, or any health concerns that we should know about to make sure we can take the best care of your student.
MEDICATIONS: Please remember our medication policy that is found in your Parent Information Guide. Prescription medications must have A STATE REQUIRED PRESCRIBER/PARENT AUTHORIZATION FORM completed and signed by the parent or guardian and signed by the doctor prescribing the medication. Any medications, including cough drops, must be brought to the nurse and signed in by a parent. DO NOT SEND MEDICATIONS TO SCHOOL WITH YOUR CHILD.
ILLNESS: Please keep children home during the course of a fever and for an additional 24 hours after the fever has passed. This also goes for vomiting and diarrhea. Your child may be carrying something very contagious.
I hope this information is helpful to you! I am looking forward to a safe and healthy school year. If I can be of any help throughout the year, please don’t hesitate to email or call me.

Vikings Notes for Parents
Our doors open at 7:30 am each day. Do not drop your child off before 7:30 am because you see a bus pulled up to the school. If your child is here before 7:30 am, they are unsupervised unless you register for Early Morning Drop-Off. Please drive slowly in our parking lot. Safety is one of our top priorities!
Attendance is a critical part of children's success. Our day officially begins at 8:00 am. Students should be in their classrooms by 8:00 am or they will be marked absent or tardy. TCSS Policy and Alabama law acknowledge the importance of student attendance. Parents/guardians must explain the cause of every absence of their student. Send an excuse (parent note, doctor/dentist note, or legal documentation) to the teacher within two days of the child's return to school. We understand that students should not attend school when they are not well. After ten absences, a parent is required to send a legal or doctor's note to the office. Please plan vacations and appointments around our school calendar as much as possible.
We work to keep every child safe. We cannot accept changes to a child's way home over the phone, via text or email. Your child should know how they get home each day. Send a note with your child if changes need to be made. We also require that anyone who comes into our building to come directly to the office to provide their drivers' license to go through our Raptor System. Students are not allowed to check out after 2:15 pm.
We are looking forward to a fantastic year of learning and fun!
