BF Corazon de Mexico Company: Prepare to be mesmerized by a captivating performance by the renowned BF Corazon de Mexico Company. Their talent and artistry will transport you to the heart of Mexican culture through music and dance. It's a show you don't want to miss!

On Saturday, September 30th, the stage at Longleaf School of the Arts came alive with the rhythmic and graceful movements of Ms. Elise Janson, the school's esteemed Dance Teacher. As the host of the NC Choreographer's Festival, Ms. Janson not only curated an evening of exceptional talent but also took center stage herself, dazzling the audience with her own creative choreography. The festival was a celebration of dance, artistry, and community engagement that left a lasting impression on all who attended.

Each choreographer's showcase was nothing short of spectacular. The choreographed pieces wove together storytelling and emotion, captivating the audience from start to finish. Beyond the performances, the festival provided an opportunity for dialogue and learning. Following the breathtaking displays of talent, Ms. Janson and the performers graciously engaged in a question and answer session with the audience, offering insights into their creative processes and the world of dance. This interactive segment allowed aspiring dancers and dance enthusiasts to connect with a seasoned professional and gain a deeper appreciation for the art form. Ms. Elise Janson's contributions to the NC Choreographer's Festival underscored her dedication to fostering a love for dance and artistic expression within the Longleaf School of the Arts community, leaving a lasting impact on all in attendance.

A special LSA Student Choreographer who participated in the festival will be featured in an upcoming newsletter!

On October 26th, there will be standardized testing for 10th and 11th grade students at Longleaf School. All 10th graders are required to attend school on this day. Additionally, 11th grade students who have signed up for the test should also come to school. For 9th and 12th grade students (excluding 11th graders not taking the PSAT), this day will serve as a community service opportunity. After the testing is complete, students will be allowed to leave. Please note that during the testing period, students will not be permitted to use their cell phones or electronic devices.

Regarding the PreACT, the estimated time for the standard administration session is 3 hours and 10 minutes, with additional time for students with accommodations. Parents and students can find more information about the PreACT test at https://www.act.org/content/act/en/products-and-services/preact.html. Students are encouraged to bring their own calculators if they have them, and approved calculator guidelines can be found on the ACT website: https://www.act.org/content/dam/act/unsecured/documents/ACT-calculator-policy.pdf.

As for the PSAT, the estimated time for this test is 2 hours and 14 minutes, including one break. Students with accommodations may have extended testing times. The PSAT/NMSQT is valuable for identifying the skills and knowledge needed for the SAT exam and for identifying candidates for the National Merit Scholarship. Notably, this year's PSAT/NMSQT will be administered online, and the necessary software will be uploaded to LSA Chromebooks. Students using their own computers will use LSA's Chromebooks for testing.

To prepare for the PSAT, students can find resources and practice tests on the official PSAT website. Additionally, there are guidelines on what to bring (and what not to bring) to the PSAT, including information on calculator use.

Attention theatre parents! The first official LSA Theatre Booster meeting is Tuesday, October 3 at 6:00 in the Black Box. There will be a Zoom option for those who cannot attend in person and the Zoom link will be on the Weebly calendar. Everyone is invited to attend, but those parents with students in 6th period Advanced Performance/ Proficient Tech are strongly encouraged to attend as we will be discussing their student's attendance at the NC Theatre Conference (Nov 2-4). Also, parents of students in the cast or crew of Twelfth Night are strongly encouraged to attend as we will discuss some upcoming requirements of the cast and crew, including tech days and ad sales.

**Only Juniors and Seniors are permitted to go off campus for lunch and have a student parking permit.

School attendance will always be of significant priority here at Longleaf School of the Arts. Not only is school attendance mandated by law, but we pride ourselves on being able to help our students prepare for college and the outside world through our 16-day force failure policy, which states that "in order for a student to receive credit for a class at Longleaf School of the Arts, the student must not be marked absent for more than sixteen (16) days per year." Please be aware that the school will send home letters for all documented absences, whether excused or otherwise noted. While we understand that circumstances beyond our control occur, we ask that you provide documentation to support any absences your student may have throughout the school year.
