MPVA Weekly Update
February 19 - 23 ,2024
Dear Parents and Students,
Our gratitude to our wonderful PTO who showed our faculty a lot of love during Valentine's week. More than the snacks, treats, and lunch, our staff truly appreciates the thoughtfulness, kindness, and time put in to make sure our staff feels supported. We know that our PTO also have jobs and other responsibilities so the added effort they put into giving to our staff is truly, truly appreciated.
Friendly reminder, there is NO SCHOOL on Monday, February 19. Tuesday will be a Grey Day.
Let's make this a great week!
Respectfully,
Mr. Sarabia
Academics are the mind of our school. Athletics are the heart of our school. Arts are the soul of our school. #WeAreMPVA
MPVA Updates
Visitors Window
Just a friendly reminder that, in an effort to avoid classroom disruptions, we kindly request that parents refrain from dropping off lunch, including outside food such as Chick-fil-A, McDonald's and etc. at the Visitor's Window during school hours. We encourage you to send your students with their lunches in the mornings or allow them to participate in the free HISD hot lunch provided in the cafeteria.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in creating a smooth learning environment.
The Princess Code Organization
The Princess Code Organization presents "The Hearts Dance", Friday, February 23rd from 6:00pm-8:00pm. Come out and enjoy the fun!!! Tickets will be sold in the cafeteria during A, B. and C lunches. Tickets are $5. Only one ticket can be purchased per student. Students will not be allowed to purchase a ticket with Temporary IDs. You MUST have a valid school ID with picture and name visible. Students with recent infractions for behavior will NOT be allowed to purchase a ticket.
We are looking for volunteers, donors, and chaperones. If there are any parents or personnel who would like to assist with setup, breakdown, chaperoning, or donating drinks and snacks, please contact Ms. Marsita Jordan at Marsita.Jordan@Houstonisd.org or Mrs. Brittany Perez-Williams at Brittany.PerezWilliams@Houstonisd.org.
This is a fundraiser for The Princess Code Organization; therefore all proceeds of the dance will go towards The Princess Code Organization efforts and its end-of-the-year, "Princess Ball". All Ticket sales are FINAL and NON-REFUNDABLE.
Lovescaping
Parents, you are invited to come out and experience "Lovescaping" on Wednesday, February 29, 2024 from 9:00am to 10:30am in the library. "Lovescaping" is a Social Emotional Learning curriculum utilized by our students here at MPVA that helps them to express their emotions through emotional awareness and reflection as well as self-regulatory methods. It provides tools to understanding how to love others and yourself. This is a community event at no cost to you. We look forward to seeing you there!
For more information, contact Title I Coordinator-Marsita Jordan at Marsita.Jordan@Houstonisd.org.

The scholarship was awarded by the CCM Foundation and recognized Savannah as a Community Artist. Savannah's design was also chosen to represent MPVA as the winner of the school-wide Mural Design Contest. Congratulations also to her proud art teacher and mentor, Mr. Adams. Let's go MPVA Arts!

FROM THE PTO
Teacher Appreciation
A huge thank you to all who donated to help shower our teachers with goodies last week! And special thanks to our Teacher Appreciation Committee - y'all are rockstars. We'll be collecting again in May for end of year Teacher Appreciation - if this is the sort of thing you love to do, be sure to reach out to communications@mpvapto.com about helping and/or serving on the committee next year.
Mural Installation
We love our new mural! Be on the lookout for future painting dates - this campus creation is for MPVA families by MPVA families. ♥️
School Spirit in February
LOCKTOPIA is hosting an awesome spirit promotion the whole month! Any party booked in February that uses the code MEYERMID will get a portion of the proceeds donated back to MPVA! This is a great idea for birthday parties or just a fun time with a group of friends - book at www.locktopiahouston.com.
Add to your calendar - Tapester’s Grill at 4520 Beechnut St. will also donate a portion of proceeds back to MPVA on Tuesday, February 27th from 8am-8pm.
WE NEED YOUR HELP!
We are in need of adult volunteers to help mind the lines during Kona Ice Spirit Days on the first Friday of the month. We have a few more this year and really want to be able to keep this fun treat, so please sign up if you can.
8th Grade Parents
The School Choice portal is now open, and we know many are figuring out where your children will attend high school. If you have questions about the process, much can be learned by following the HISD Magnet Parents Forum on Facebook.
The new donation portal for 8th grade events is being finalized and will be shared out shortly, along with dates of all activities. Please note that all money given online in support of 8th Grade Events will go through the PTO website, NOT SchoolPay.
